Wheelers told me to retorque at 300 miles. That's it. It probably depends on the u bolt material. If it stretches a lot you need to retorque more often. You could lock tite them and never worry about it again.

75 ft lb for my u bolts.

 

You sure it's 75 and not 7.5?

 

I torque mine to 100ft lb. But a one ton ford is torqued to 180 if that puts things in perspective doesnt take a whole lot..

It was some kind of typo in the FSM, like they were off a decimal place or something IIRC it says 9.5 and should be 95 or something like that. I remember reading a lengthy discussion on it not too long ago

 

Oh my spec is from wheelers since I got their longer u bolts. I just did what they said to do.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This. It's 73 ft lbs. Or, 876in lbs, depending on your torque wrench of choice.

 

One does not simply buy an inch pound torque wrench that goes that high.

 

Are you sure? We have them to work on planes. We have some that are 2k Inch lbs.

Edit: Keep in mind, if things go that high, converting to foot lbs doesn't work out so well when half the guys who work on the planes can't even spell their names.

 

Wow sounds like the people I know.. can't figure out that half of a 16 oz bottle is 8 oz..
