Extra work?

I want to tap into Tacoma World's vast knowledge base and helpful members. I work graveyard at my local hospital and watch my 4 month old in the mornings till my wife gets off work, yeah about 3-4 hours of sleep! I want a second side job I can do from home that I can earn at least $100 per week. I can't sit down and do something for 8 hours but do have some time to kill cause the little guy doesn't sleep much. I just need a little extra money to fund the Tacoma projects and some of my tinkering ideas sitting on my work bench. Any help would be great. Thanks!

 

I am curious as well.... My girls off to the RN program next year and Ill be floating our bills for 2yrs.

Im already planning on paying off the truck and all credit cards before then, and hoping to get her a new car. Rent is $1400 plus all utilities. This doesnt even get into gas money x2 (clinicals as well as school), food, car insurance x2, medical insurance (now mandatory) , vet bills, pet supplies, whatever the car payment is, books, tuition, malpractice insurance, plus I need to save money to replace the shower tub here in 1 of the bathrooms after I put my foot through it.

I keep telling myself it will pay off in the end......... but it aint easy right now as I am on disability and looking at surgery and or Radiofrequency Ablation

 

This is a good question. I was initially going to say something like....take on a house cleaning job or landscaping (since all of it is based on trust and under the table money), but realized you need to be at home. I have friends who work from home working for mortgage lenders, but they usually have set hours (8-4). Try the secret shopper thing but the on-line version. I know that it's a very part time thing and you could probably make a little cash. Too bad you're not up here in DC. I can't even find a contractor to put in hardwood floors, patio, and fence for me....seriously. I've just decided to do the floors myself and not worry about anything else....decent contractors are hard to find here.

 

Yeah I do all my work myself to, don't trust anyone to do half as good as I can do myself even though they are usually faster!

 

I've known people who sell junk as a side job. They find STUFF (whether at yard sales, online, or where-ever) and RE-SELL the stuff on ebay.

Kinda like the show 'American Pickers'....... but smaller scale.

Or buy things in BULK cheaper and resell individually for profit.

It might be a lot of work to coordinate shipping & making ebay pages & such......

 

Yeah funny you mention that, I have about $2500 worth of stuff I need to put on EBay I just haven't yet. Getting used to the baby schedule aka lack of sleep!

 

I'll be watching this thread. I'm in the same spot working 4 nights a week and never sleeping more the 5 or 6 hours a day. I'm in a little different spot, my boy is married & out of the house and I'm single so I've got extra time. I know a few people that work from home but they are either certificated or they are required to visit a job site or client a few times a month. One is a certified financial planner (works 100% from home) the other wholesales home and commercial construction supplies. He typically works with builders via email where he bids supplies for all or portions of each Job. He does need to meet with clients on occasion.

So, for me, even though I'd like the 100% work from home job that would be okay. Problem is for either of those jobs I 100% lack the knowledge, education and connections.

I did put together a fake investment portfolio a while back a tracked the success of my fake investments. It did just okay...certainly not well enough to justify the risk of doing it myself.

 

bump, c'mon guys, anything, seems like there are people out there with the same question and who can't use more money for their Taco!

 

I know you said you want to work from home but this time of year security companies will be falling over each other to hire people.

As already suggested you could do ebay sales, my mother in law does that and makes some pocket spending money.

 

4 month old kinda kills that, but if I could get out of the house there is lots I could do!

 

Great point on the ebay sales. I noticed that what you can find on sale at your local place and go for much more on ebay. Craigslist is also another option to find things at a discount rate. I recently got a nice Schwinn mountain bike for free on craigslist. It just needed a tune up and a new seat!
I was just thinking...my neighbor does the whole daycare thing and she literally lives off that all year!

 

Figure out how to make your own ammunition and sell it. My buddy bought the press and shit, then buys all the stuff in bulk and makes them himself. Not sure where he sells them or anything, but he's at like $14 when everyone else is $20.

 

I started my own shop, and to help keep money in my pocket while it built, I learned several tricks. This is the same thing that when you think about it, a bunch of people on TW already do: Find a product that you would like to sell to TW members, and others, and do the research. You could do heavy research and find a distributor so that you can sell LEDs to TW members, or you could learn how to do the cluster LED changes, or build the wheel bearing assemblies like me and NJ do. Each of us found a market and did the leg work. I consider this not stepping on toes here because face it, how many people here build and sell sliders and bumpers and such? The advantage is that you can set your own hours (Work around the kid's needs) and build yourself up from there. It doesn't even have to be here on TW. There are several Toyota forums, as well as other makes, that could benefit from a little ingenuity. Good luck!
