...so who's version of God is the correct one? with all the different versions all over the world...who's bowing to the correct Idol? kinda reminds me of the classic "which oil is best?" question. the fact that there are so many variances turns me off of all of it. i've never heard of anyone who hadn't been previously exposed to a religion that believes in a God. we have, over the course of recorded history, made them all up. i'm sorry to any members this may offend...that is not the intention. i think that the various religions have been used throughout human civilization to control behavior. example from my childhood: "if you don't behave, Santa will not bring you any presents this Christmas." so therefore...if i believe in Jesus, then i must also believe that Santa has a crib at the north pole full of elves? religion has been used throughout human history to explain what we don't understand, and control our behaviors and actions.

if anyone can tell me which religion is the "right" one...i'll sign up.

Seems you've read the Communist Manifesto. But I actually totally agree with you for entirely different reasons than you intended. I certainly hope my behavior is being controlled by my belief in Christ. Amen.

I think religion was just created to "put the fear of God" in men so that they will be good men. Like it's just to keep people in line in fear of going to hell. I am in no means knocking religion. I think it is great to be religious, but some people take it way too seriously imo.

dang, i'm a communist? well, i'll have to run out and get me a chairman Mao shirt. In reality...i couldn't define "communism" if Che Guevara had a gun to my head and demanded it. i don't get my ideals from any one book, politician, or religion. instead, i look at all aspects of a given subject...consider them, then i make a decision based mostly upon logic and past experiences as to my opinion or actions thereafter.

lol I agree. That's why I don't believe or follow a religion. They can't all be right. I also don't need to believe in invisible beings to know right from wrong or to treat others well. I certainly don't expect same said being(s) to forgive me if I'm an asshole my entire life just because I say "please forgive me." If they were true then I could be a serial killer, child molester, or both and have no fear.

The modern mind is in complete disarray. Knowledge has stretched itself to the point where neither the world nor our intelligence can find any foot-hold. It is a fact that we are suffering from nihilism.

    None.... ....Yet!
Atheist. As a child my parents went to a baptist church (even though they are methodist) and stopped when I was maybe ten. Then they started going again to a methodist church when I was maybe 15. They were a bit taken aback when I refused.

I had learned enough at school in science class to realize that religion was, well, lets say not for me because my true feelings on it are somewhat harsh. Needless to say they were not happy. I got accused of worshiping satan. I got accused of hating god. I got grounded. I got priveledges taken away. Finally they accepted it grudgingly.

Even then I was SO glad when I shipped out for basic training. I'm 40 now and my parents are STILL trying to get me to go to church. Maybe there reluctance to accept it is what has driven me further away. Since then I have seen nothing that gives me even an inkling that there may be the slightest possibility that there is a god. And I am glad to say my wife and my two beautiful girls are the same.

Good for her. She obviously had a lot of friends that cared for her.
