Suprisingly Bad Fuel Economy

I usually don't bother, but I checked my fuel economy after I installed a K&N cold air intake.... 13.5 MPG! This was driving normally, not too slow, not too fast, partially city, partially highway. The only ways I know how to improve this are intake and exhaust, both of which are upgraded... Any other tips? Oh, yeah, I've run injector cleaner through it about 6 months ago, definately going to do that again soon.

 

CAI and bad MPG after install...not shocked at all.

I'd recommend the Deck plate mod and call it a day. Stock map is best for mpg

 

Wouldn't a cold air intake increase gas milage? Maybe I'm stupid, but it seems that if it were easier to get the air into the engine it would run more efficiently. More air = more percentage of fuel burned, right? equals more efficient?

 

What about replacing the fuel filter, been a little while since I've done that.... Maybe too long? I've contemplated getting a throttle body spacer, but I'm not sure how they've field tested. Theoretically, they'd work great, but who knows?

 

ok, i can definately buy that. here's my problem... i busted my original box on accident, and figured why replace an origional part if i could get more hp/mpg (depending on how i drive) by getting a cai. what's this deck plate mod you're talking about? is there anyway i can get fresh air to the cai without cutting out part of my quarter panel?

 

Oh, ok... I've heard of that before, only without the ability to replug the hole. doesn't quite help in my situation, unfortunately. What if I ran PVC through my fenderwell from under my front bumper to my filter? theoretically,I'd get fresh, cold air to my filter, and not hot air from under my hood, plus i now have a larger surface area on my filter.... better mpg/hp, i would think. maybe i'm wrong, who knows.
