Guys I need a video type camera that can be placed in the rear window of my 2001 Tacoma unobtrusively, so people can't see it.
I want it to be on some type of switch so I can cut it on instantly from the dash/whatever to capture a video of what is going on behind the truck.

I need the video capture to be on some type of media that will be around for a while that I can take into "Court" and present as evidence in big problem I am having! Hope you understand!

Any ideas/suggestions/knowledge would be very much appreciated.

If you have an idea try to tell me where to get the parts/whatever.

    I know nothing about cameras!

care to elaborate on the "big problem" you are having?

there's cameras that will turn on and off with the vehicle for collision monitoring, but I can't think of anything you can wire up to a switch. I assume for that convenience you'd have to just flip around and hit REC

No, I need a video camera that can take a "Movie Type" picture with live action showing what is taking place.
    Thanks for the try though.

You do realize that a GoPro camera is a VIDEO camera that records what it sees, right?

doesn't anything that records video "show what is taking place"?

I'm sorry I'm just not understanding what you mean by live action. anything that records life is "live action" technically. it's life....in action.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Yeah, what is "movie type", are you talking quality?

Also, what is your price range, this could help determine the best camera for you?

So what exactly is going on?

I have a manfrotto camera mount and just a baseline samsung camcorder on it, it works perfectly for me. I keep it running every mile I go, it has seen some really interesting stuff. The website is FILMTOOLS.com look for the filmtools gripper 115xl $112 plus the cost of a camera. I chose the samsung because it is avalable with extra long life battery's. Mine will run about 400 minutes on a single charge, you can load it on your computer too. Best part is it was all. About 275 bucks and it doesn't lie either.

tan4x4, sorry, I know nothing about cameras, at first glance I thought it was just a camera that takes a fixed picture.

Now I see it is a video camera, thanks very much. I'm already investigating it.

Almost all camera's that take "pictures" that are on the market today are able to take video as well and you can get they fairly cheap

Get a gopro hero 3. I have the black version.

Not sure what the other versions features has, but mine can hold a 64 GB card takes 4k movie quality video or high quality pics or time lapses in at the quickest 1 second intervals, comes with a remote, you can add an extra battery and it can transmit live video over wifi to phone or computer. It's shock proof and waterproof.
A little over $500 is what my setup cost (Go Pro, Extra battery, Micro SD, grab bag of mounts).

It's not the smallest, sneakest camera. But I almost gureentee for it's size, it takes the best video for its price.

Mount it in a tissue box and velcro it to the rear deck.
Get a tissue box with a "busy" color pattern so the hole for the lens won't be obvious.

Not sure what your price range is but there is a CCTV company called Everfocus that sells compact mobile dvr's for police cars/busses etc. The DVR's are powered by 12vdc so you can just wire it to your battery, and the DVR has alarm inputs so you can wire a toggle switch to start the recording. They also have various cams for vehicles. Check them out www.everfocus.com
