If that's all you're doing, look into a lil wil magnetic antenna, and put it on the dead center of your hood when you're wheeling.

It tickles your need for symmetry, and performs almost as well as one of the relentless mounts.

That's what I ran last time we went (on the hood, but off to the side), and I could hit Brian pretty much anywhere we were in the park.

I say deal with the "offset" look. It doesn't look bad in ANY way possible. To be completely honest, I think dual antennas are completely POINTLESS, especially if your only doing it for looks.... That's my .02 about it.

so you ran the hood mount? i'm gonna check that out. i will be doing this build for expedition wheeling and over night trips that take a weekend or week long. the roof magnet would be good for day trips. i think i'll settle for the hood mount and when not in use just take it off.
EDIT: you think a 4ft with medium spring is good? and 6ft co-aux cord?

If you can get a phased array spaced and tuned properly you can get 1.75-3.05 dBd gain (3.9-5.2 dBi), which is greater than what a single antenna will give you.

However, it's physically impossible for most vehicles, and thus yes, pointless.

It's also not a trivial exercise in tuning to get it setup properly.

In theory, it's a great idea. I'd venture a guess that <5% of the ones you see are setup correctly and working to the advantage of the radio. The other 95% are probably hurting things at best and damaging the radio at worst. Transistor finals don't like a mismatch and you'll screw them up in a hurry running high SWR.

Yeah, I ran a hood mount but with a Larsen NMO27b antenna. It's a base loaded whip style, and I made the mount myself to fit the NMO mount.

Yeah, I'd do a 4' with medium spring. That'll be g2g. A 3' will probably get the top sufficiently higher than the cab too I'd bet.

technology is great! haha but so are humans reminding us! i had to get out my woodland camis and my bravo shirts out for winter...as much as i don't like to switch dress uniforms i love switching to the woodlands. plus the woodlands look way more badass than the deserts.
