NEED help wiring speakers

ok im running 6 speakers in my tacoma. 4 in the cab and 2 in the bed (they are marine). my head unit has 3 pre amp outputs. one is already taken for my amp/subs. i am using a rca amp cable that converts into speaker wire to power the speakers in my bed. the problem is that the speakers are not receiving any power. i am planning to use a switch to break the circuit so i can turn them on and off.

i do not know what the problem is do you guys have any idea????

the speakers are 3 way polk audio marine speakers with peak 300w

 

Woah, hold up buddy...for a second it sounded like you were trying to convert an RCA pre-out into a speaker level input. Please tell me that's not what you're doing.

 

That will not work for your application. That RCA is meant to be used on an amp that only has high level inputs (speaker level) and no low level RCA type inputs. It is not meant to drive a speaker. The RCA outputs do no put out enough power to drive speakers and the impedance of the speakers is much too low for it to be safe. If you haven't fried the RCA outputs of your HU yet, you soon will.

 

You would need to run that RCA cable into an amp that has high level inputs, or better idea, get a regular set of RCA cables and run them to an amp with RCA inputs.

 

Yeah, that JL cable wont work. It transfers a speaker level signal into RCA's but not the other way around. You need an amp.
