    Hey Gang,
I used to go to the gym for years. I'd lift weights and cardio. Nothing major. I'd lift enough weights on all aspects (upper, lower, abs, etc) to be sore for a few days after. I kept toned up.

About a year ago, I had some issues with my spine (thickened spinal ligament and an issue in my neck). After MRI - doctor ordered me NOT to lift weights anymore (on upper body / back). So...I stopped lifting weights completely. I did strictly cardio for a while....but eventually, I let my gym membership run out.

I was going to the gym strictly to keep toned up ...and feel good, not necessarily to lose weight. More...to maintain....

By next year, I'll be changing over from a physically involved job to an office job sitting on my ass all day.... and I'm feeling the need to join the gym again or else I WILL gain weight.

How can I stay toned without causing problems to my spine? Can I do very small weight for lots of reps? Can I lift 5lbs for 3 sets of 20 or even 30? Or should I talk to my doctor and stick with cardio?

    (when I used to lift weights...shoulders/arms, I'd do 70lbs for 3 sets of 15)

honestly I would ask your doctor and then schedule an appointment with a physical therapist/personal trainer... they'll know exactly how to take care of you... good luck

    DO THAT.
We all know what it's like to be getting over an injury & want to push your limits but your ongoing injury sounds serious so I'd play it safe

I'd see another doctor as well. I had a back issue and doc told me to stop working out. Two weeks later, it was worse. Went to an athletic trainer and they said that was the opposite of what I needed to do. Started working out again, and the pain went away.

Lots of docs, especially ones who don't workout, will tell you for every musculoskeletal issue or disorder to stop working out and/or rest. While that's the case for an injury, some things are fine to workout with and in cases, can actually help.

    throat hurts...gotta skip leg day

EDIT: Just made my first homemade mass gainer shake. It tastes pretty good. Here are the stats, compared to serious mass (my shake/Serious Mass):

    Calories: 500/625
    Protein: 38g/25g
    Carbs: 42g/126g

I only put protein, peanut butter, and oats in this one, but in the future, I'm gonna put some different fruit and maybe some Greek yogurt to get the carbs higher. Overall, I have to say, since it's WAY cheaper and tastes better than Serious Mass, I'm sticking to my own mass gainer from now on! No disrespect to ON, as I will still be using their whey for my shakes.

It was actually the Neurologist who told me to stop working out - so there's a disconnect between specialist & regular doctor. Everything he's explained to me makes complete sense.... thickened spinal ligament PLUS fluid in my spinal chord. They don't want my spinal chord to be crowded....

I agree...talking with my doctor and/or just exercises (without weights) to keep things moving/toned.

I need to get on a tread mill!!! lol

Try going to a chiropractor (I know I've said this before to other TW members on this thread) but they are really smart people and will tell you what to do. Mine informs me of what I may be doing wrong and how I can fix it.. good people ya know?

I've asked my doctor about a chiropractor and because of the fluid/ACM, they don't recommend it. They wouldn't even give me a cortisone shot due to the fluid.
(Two years ago I had tingling in my fingers and the reason why I had an MRI).

No pics or videos, but I'm gonna make another one after I workout, so I'll put up a pic later today. It was good though...I could drink it through a straw, so not too thick. I'm gonna mess around with it some more and make it perfect
