This is a really good point. My speedometer appears to be 4.3% off when compared to GPS, so at 70mph by speedometer the GPS reads 67mph. This would also then mean that the odometer is off by 4.3%, and when I see fuel economy of 22.1mpg, I'm actually getting 21.15mpg.

    interesting ....

Exactly. The GPS will be accurate because it is using a satellite locator. Just some thing for you all to think about. Either way if the speedo is off then your math is also unless you correct for it.

If you put slightly bigger tires on your truck, do you have to get the computer adjusted, or will it adjust itself? SOunds like neither, guys are just dealing with the speedometer/odo adjustments themselves?

There are some products out there to adjust the speedo output that have been used with mixed results. It does not adjust itself....

If you put the correct tires on it will be correct. Not that the computer will change, because it already acts like it is correct even thought it isn't. By installing my 33s I actually made my speedo 2.7 mph faster than my gps. As opposed to the undersized tires where I my speedo was slower than my gps. Don't remember by how much.

I can't even fathom 24.9. My best is around 21mpg... driving down to Denver and coasting in neutral down the mountain passes.

You've got a good point. My GPS also reads 3 mph slower than my speedo at 70. At 60 it reads 57, or 5% off. Using the 5% number I got 23.65 mpg instead of 24.9.

    I'm still happy :)

Just got a touch over 100 miles out of the first 1/4 tank. Cheap no name brand discount 87fuel. That's commuting miles, to and fro work only. No a/c. very light throttle. I've only passed 1 car. Even compare to my previous tanks 100 of commuting is very good on the first quarter. Usually I get about 75-85 out of it it.

Not necessarily. It would be if the unit were all mechanical, working off the same drive gear. While the Taco's speedometer receives the same input as the odometer, the deviation could be in the calibration of the analog display. The data could be right, but it is displaying it wrong, the odometer just displays what it is sent; the odometer would be right and the speedometer wrong. To check, you would need to verify the odometer against the distance tracked by the GPS, not the speed.

My past experience with other 'yotas tells me that this speedo calibration issue is very common. Reads 70, actually 67.

It's not just Toyotas. Most speedos are off by a few mph. Police cars used to have to go through a special calibration process to insure accuracy. I don't know if they still do that, but the point is most speedos are not 100% accurate.

I'm averaging 16.05mpg on 33's for the last 2 fill ups. I ran 87 octane AND tried switching to 89 the next time and got 0.25mpg BETTER with the 87. Probably just driving differences but for the record... You guys suck! LOL
