Farm Tacomas Anyone?

So, does anyone else here use their Tacoma as a farm truck? Post some pictures if you have them.

I know around my area it is mostly domestics that get used as farm trucks. I know of one guy who uses a early 2000's Tundra (not up on my Tundra models) and his brother uses an old Volkswagen diesel (Rabbit I think), but that's it.

You cant really see in the pictures but I have a fuel tank in the bed with electricity supplied by my truck battery. I had hoped to get a picture with my truck pulling our grain table but alas my truck didn't get to pull it this year.

I use my taco for a lawn service...this was bringing a new rider home. And I do truck loads of hay for the rabbits since I breed rabbits.

 

Cool, that flatbed makes the cab looked stretched. At least to me.

 

Yep 80 acres up here in Maine gets used pretty much every day doing some thing mostly hauling fire wood.

 

Yeah it does give that illusion. But my bed is actually 7 and a half feet with the bed.

 

I used to use mine for wood (well only early this spring, since that's when I have had it) but I have since made a wood wagon out of a hay wagon. No more bark in the bed of the truck for most of the winter! If you haven't come across it yet, check out the wood heat thread.

Any usefull farm mods? I dont really have any yet other than weathertecs (I wish I would of held out for a truck with the factory all weather flooring). I may rip out the carpet some time and put down a bed liner for flooring.

I plan on different tires before winter (I've been stuck in mud twice with the stock BFGoodrichs and 3 wheel drive that my '86 with geolanders would have skated right through). Also I plan on the 2lo mod when I get over the new truck feel.

 

The Farm I manage has a 1st gen with 160k on it. One day we got a 80' boom sprayer stuck and had to offload the tanks to pull it out. Everybody(all domestic truck guys) was impressed with the taco when it pulled the double axle tank trailer out of that soft field without spinning a tire(I had the rear locked).

 

For tires I have dick cepek mud country. The wear wonderful and go through anything. Fog light any time mod is useful fo work lights.

 

I forgot to mention in the original post I farm about 350 acres of corn and soybeans.

 

I will be doing the 2lo mod soon for sure. I feel like my truck will thank me for creeping through things as opposed to slipping the clutch or lugging the motor.

 

Haha cool. We just bought a Whilmar 765HT with 60' booms that we are going to make into 75' booms since we are on 30" rows. I gotta get new tires before winter, I am afraid though that I will never put the BFGoodrichs back on.

I am also looking at the foglight mod. My idea though, is that I want the foglights to be switchable by the high beams so I can see ditches better on rural road (it really helps when looking for fing deer) and not have to turn them off separately when I meet someone and go to low. But I also want them to be able to be on with low beams for fog/snow.

 

You would have to run a jumper wire to the high beam switch then. I just have mine where I can turn them on anytime but yeah they help with the deer for sure.

 

I looked at doing the fog anytime mod but I haven't seen anybody do a writeup on the configuration that my truck is(it's stock in that regard). I'm kinda miffed as to why mine is configured differently. But I did put a set of D2's in my Elite bumper. Wasn't planning on it but the bumper came with an extra set of fog cutouts so I went ahead and put them in. They are on a seperate switch and can be turned on/off any time. They work well in conjuction with my high beams for illuminating your peripheral vision to see those deer.

 

Kinda. I do live on a farm and it gets used to haul shit around, but thats about it.

 

That flat bed is freaking cool.

Have you done anything to the suspension?

 

I billy 5100 in the front at 2.5 and then in the rear there is a custom leaf and sure bags because I will put 1500 to 2000 in the bed and tow 6500 regularly.

 

Our farm yota burned to the ground one of the wires was exposed causing it to short resulting it burnt down, I don't have any pics of it, not that I can find anyways but it was an 84 xtracab pickup with 180,000 miles on it
