Today I had my Gear in neutral, truck running, put the tcase into Neutral, made a lil noise moving through the 4 lo, but then when the tcase was in neutral tried putting in Park, and made awful grinding noise, is this still due to the output shaft still turning?
If you are bored, try this out and let me know what happens..

When the T-case is in neutral, you can't move the transmission into park. The t-case has to be in gear. If not, you will get that horrible grinding and should see the A/T park light come on.

When going to and fro 4L you should put the trans in park first, not neutral.

That grinding happened to me once. Freaked me out. I was backing down a hill and while doing so the T-case slipped out into neutral. didn't notice since i was riding the brakes. at the bottom of the hill, tried to put it in park and thought the trans was about to drop out.

When that happens put it in 4H, then shift into park, then move t-case where you want it.
