Hey guys I need some expert input from yoos guys. I got my truck to overheat yesterday while I was doing some driving around town. I had the a/c on and got the temp needle almost all the way up. I put the heater on to the second mark and drove home. The temp went down doing 30+ and started to pick up once I got into town (-30 stop and go). Waterpump? My trucks making a wiered ass noise ever since I went 4wheeling and failed miserably. Its like a whining sound and is on all the time and the sound changes as I pick up speed. I have an extented warranty on it so ill be able to get a new water pump + labor. I just wanted any insight as to how to check it and see if it is bad. My old s-10 would start leaking from the bottom of the water pump. Do taco's have the same little pin hole that let's us know if they're bad?

And another question, my fan doesn't blow on the third line or full blast either. What could cause this? I recently did install a cd player, but I connected all the wires back, and it was working properly before I did the install. Is there a fuse that could have blown or just a connector that I forgot to connect? I'm gonna take it to the stealership and have the waterpump replaced if it is that on thurs, I kinda want to get my blower fan fixed before that. Thanks guys sorry for the long post!

several things first, check your coolant level. second it could be that your connections to your water pump have come loose or that like you said, you fried the water pump. those are some things that i can think of

Thanks beastly. Ill check them out tomorrow. I also forgot to mentions it has over 100,000 miles. Not sure if its the original. I bought it used and I'm almost sure this thing has seen its fair share of the wilderness. I also need to get the front diff oil seals changed cuz they are leaking as well.
I didn't know the water pump had electrical connections. Are you talking about the coolent temp sensor? The radiator fluid is ok, and I was a little low in the resevoir. I did hear some bubbling though, seemed it came from the radiator. :notsure: I hope I can get this fixed for little to no money outta pocket.

yeah also check your radiator for cracks or leaks. if its bubbeling you hear then that could mean a crack somewhere along the radiator. and that could be why your engine was over heating

Took a look at it today and didn't see anthing that would say leaking. i didn't have any antifreeze leaking. I'm starting to second-guess my waterpump being bad. I'm also thinking what about a stuck pulley? The belt doesn't look glazed at all. No water in my oil either. Would anyone know how to remove the radiator fan shroud and the Fan itselt? it kinda sucks its a one piece fan shroud. and how do i take the belt off? I can't seem to find where the tensionor is at.

It sounds like the fan clutch is damaged and not engaging. When the engine is hot, shut it down and wait a minute for the fan clutch to heat up and grab. Then open the hood with the engine still shut off and try to spin the fan by hand. It should be very difficult to spin. If it spins freely, the clutch is not working and will need to be replaced/repaired.

Thank you senor MassiveTaco. I was able to spin my fan freely just by reaching in there, but my truck was cold. I had the idea of maybe the little coil thingy in front of a fan clutch being "dirty" like full of mud. But would a failed fan clutch explain the Noise thats eminating constanly in idle and increases as RPMs increase? Also, it only heats up when i'm sitting in traffic for a while. but if i'm over 30+mph it stays withing the temp zone.

Makes sense, while driving you have cool air constantly coming into the engine bay to bring the temperature down. While at stand still, no new air introduced, thus the heat just grows.

That last part is what makes me think that it's the fan. Sitting in traffic you're relying on the fan to move air over the radiator, while you're under way air is constantly moving over the radiator so the fan is not needed for cooling.

When the engine is cold, the fan should spin freely. It should not spin freely when hot (when the clutch is hot that is).

    *edit*

about the noise, it is possible that it's being caused by the fan/clutch as it would vary with RPM.

You know what, i don't know if my fan clutch is a type with a little coil thingy in front or an oil type fan clutch. I did notice phillip screws all the way around the clutch itself, so now i'm thinking its one of those oiled clutch type? Can anyone shed some light? And now it makes sense, sitting in traffic, no air flow, moving-stays cooler. Hmmmm....

Thanks guys. Yea the coolant is good for 100,000 miles, but my truck IS USED and my truck does have over 100,000 miles, I don't know if it was maintained prior, I'm better off just buying the coolant and flushing it out and doing the work myself. Damn what a day I'm going to have! Once I get everthing, ill make a tutorial with lots o pics. Thanks guys ill keep you posted. Ill probably do this sometime tomorrow if all goes according to plan.
