SQ amp less than 18" putting out 1k watts @ 4ohms?

Huh maybe i was misinformed by the engineers that developed that amp for DC sound lab... please inform me sir since i imagine you are a electrical engineer. you are saying 350 watt at 4 ohms is less strain that 350 at 1 ohm? huh weird

 

I'm sorry, I'm not specifically looking for a 4 channel amp to power my subs. I forgot about the whole wiring looking into the 900.4 so I can properly throw all the 4 channels out my window. & I agree with the "not really a waste" But I am looking for a Mono D block that puts out at least 1000rms at 4 ohms.

 

On a mono D block you arnt going to get a true 1000 watts that is why it is rms. And i dont think a amp of that size would fit in the spot you are looking to fill.

 

it is going to be hard to get a true 1000 watts out of a amp at 4 ohms that is compact. only way to up the watts is run it at a lower impedance or a higher voltage.

 

I'm studying to be an audio engineer and for live sound system design picking amps and speakers is what we do.

Think of it like stationary bike.

If you have lots of resistance on the bike you can turn it. But not super fast. But once it's going its not so bad and you can do it for a long time.

If there is almost no resistance and you try and pedal fast you get to a point where you can..it's harder to keep up.

Amps are the same way. You need LOTS of head room to run big shows and you never want to overload an amp to make it run too hot and decrease it's efficiency and sound quality.


So yes.

Running at 4 ohms will wound better and let your amp run better then 1 ohm load.

 

huh i guess i will send the link to this guy to tell him he is wrong. sucks that his company is working on the 49ers stadium putting in all new speakers and sound system and to think he is wrong...

Not trying to … just saying. You should base your opinion off of what you know from experience and not just off of what people tell you one way or another.

Although when you're ready to listen, there's some pretty knowledgeable people on this site who would be happy to oblige.

 

I listen to the professionals in industry. He could totally be wrong and i dont know shit about amplifier workings. if i did i would be designing them and making them better there is huge cash in car audio.

I listen to all and take into consideration... some one with more experience than he has been alive and who owns the company installing a sound system in a stadium sounds like a better option in my book...

 

Have you tried looking for an old Alpine PDX 1.1000? I see no problem going with something that puts out 1200 watts if it fits the space requirements and you can afford the extra $$. Extra power is never a bad thing.

And to other folks flaming back and forth about speaker resistance and load, yes a lower resistance is more work for an amp.

Power = Current^2 x Resistance

As resistance is decreased, more current must flow to meet the power demand. Current causes heat and wears out parts.
