I know! I got so focused on that noise that I dropped the ball. I might try to swing by hidden valley road and grab a pic tomorrow

rattle under the gear shift..it speed dependent? have to be moving? you have a tranny skid? something on the skid? loose bolt?

It doesn't seem to be speed or rpm dependent. I'm wondering if it's a loose bolt in my triple stick linkage. Good idea on checking out the trans skid. I'll do that too.

BAD NEWS: It looks like my mystery rattle-noise is coming from one of my transfer cases.

My guess is that the bearing in my rear adapter plate is going out. This happened to SteezMcQueen earlier this year. We both bought our crawl boxes at almost the same time. So, I ordered a new bearing from Marlin Crawler. Looks like I'll take the system apart on the 8th. Bummer.

Here's a link to his build thread. Look half way down to see the bearing

^Yeah... it's always something with me.

The only good news: Talking with Dylan, it seems like this isn't a problem that it going to make me grenade any time soon. So, I can drive my truck in the interim. Dylan was in Moab when his went bad and wheeled for another day. Then he drove home and it didn't seem to get any worse. Hopefully, that will be the case for me.

So, here's a thread on TTORA of guys with similar problems. It looks like, occasionally, the required retaining snap ring is missing on the bearing, causing problems. I'll take mine apart on the 8th and find out for myself.

The springs are breaking in a bit. Blackdawg: Here's a pic at full flex, like I promised.

I took this directly behind the slider, so you can see the clearance. I think I'll get a little over an inch more as the system loosens up.

Marlin's double row bearing arrived. Time to start collecting everything I need for the swap.

Hey man got a question for you about the 7100s..most places your order them from come with Heims that are 1/2''..standard for most shocks..

But..for the stock locations like you have you have the rubber 18mm billy bushings..did you press out the Heims or order them with the bushings??

also about your rear 7100's i couldnt find a good enough pick but are you using both stock upper mounts so the passenger side is in front of the axle? im looking at flipping my u-bolts and re locating my rear shocks but i dont know if i just want to do a cross member for the top or keep the stock top mounts  decisions, decisions! i do know i want to keep then in a vertical position though (l l not / \) cause its my DD

Yes sir, I pressed out the heims and ordred new bushings from Amazon. So far, they are working out great!

So, I'm still using the stock locations for both the upper and lower mounts. With my current setup, I could probably fit a 14" shock under there without bottoming it out. (I'm lifted almost 5" in the rear)

BUT, if I was to relocate my shocks, I'd probably make both sides identical. I'd do this just because I could order identical length shock without issue. Right now, I've got a .5" difference in available flex with the stock locations. That being said, I haven't had a good reason to relocate yet. My 12" travel shocks are working great!
