Fog lights not working.

Hi Guys,

A couple days ago the fog lights quit working on my 07 Tacoma. I have checked the fuse, relay and even removed and tested the switch. I have not tried new bulbs yet because it is hard for me to believe that the both stopped working at the same exact time but I ordered some and will try replacing those next. If anyone has had the same problem or has any suggestions please let me know.

Did you replace the fuse anyways (or test it). I've had a few that looked fine but were actually blown, for troubleshooting purposes, swap it for a new one just to be sure. If new bulbs don't solve the problem and the relay and switch checks out fine, then you're into tracing wires, looking for a cut or disconnected wire.

 

Are you getting any voltage at the light bulb plug? If you aren't then work from there checking the obvious first. I have seen bulbs go out at the exact same time although it is really rare.

 

Yes I did replace the fuse and tested relay, both are 100%. I will throw new bulbs in there as soon as they arrive. The truck only has 38k miles on it though that's why it's hard for me to believe its the bulbs and they both went at the same time.

 

Did you check the voltage at the bulb plug to make sure you still have power there (new bulbs would do this also but it's quicker to give it a quick test with a volt meter). Also, mileage does not correlate to bulb life, some vehicles are primarily driven during the day so they may have 60k miles on them and the headlights might only get used when it's raining once in a while or you could live in Alaska where it's dark for 6 months and your lights are on 100% of the time. Just saying, you can't look at the mileage when talking about bulb life.

Test the voltage at the bulb.

My relay and fuse tested fine....then we tested my voltage at the bulbs and somehow both of mine have a short between the relay and bulb. When it gets warmer Ill trace the wires to find the issue.

 

Got the same prob on 2010 Tacoma, just removed them to do a sleeved mod and when I reconnected them both don't work... Relay and fuse look fine, don't have a multimeter in hand to check for voltage, but will try to disconnect and clean plugs and reconnect everything to check again, if not it might be a wire snapping out of the plug, wich then again it's very hard for both of them to go out at the same time...

So I have a set of aftermarket fog lights installed on the truck I bought a year back. The fog lights have been working up until recently. Now my fog lights only work intermittently. I've traced down wires, relays, fuses and everything I can think of. I keep the switch on and they will come on occasionally after starting the truck.

Today I went out and the lights came on, I drove to a restaurant, went in and ate, went to leave and they didn't work again.

Please help.

 

If that is happening, i would think its a cable thats not making contact in the correct way!

 

My Fog lights work when I push the button, but as soon as I take my finger off, they turn off? Do you think it's the button?

It happened a while back but then one day they stayed on and I just left them on forever and they just stayed on with my headlights. But the other day I pushed the button again to turn them off and now it's happening again...

Suggestions?

 

Yes, it does sound like you have a bad fog light switch.

 

how do you test the switch?
