Pipe is hollow, tubing is not.

    No both a hollow.

But for bending you need different dies since tubing is measured from outside diameter and pipe is measured from the inner diameter.

Nope. A 2" pipe is close to 2.3" in OD. so if you have a tube die that's 2" it'll be too small..

I was just most bringing this up to the guys asking about the bender and such so people didn't get something wrong along the way.

You can use pipe to build stuff. Just need pipe dies.

Differences between tubing and pipe are diameter measurements like Monte pointed out so yes you use different dies for pipe. Also, pipe has a welded seam. Some tubing does as well but tubing such as DOM does not. Pipe is generally more brittle than tubing. That doesn't necessarily mean its weaker. But say you had a rollcage built from Sch40 pipe and rolled HARD, it is possible that the pipe could crack sooner (particularly along the welds) whereas tubing will crush/bend and deflect more before it fails. In something like a rollcage that can be a good thing since you want it to absorb some of the energy of the roll.

All that being said, there was a local Land Cruiser shop that built some serious Cruisers about 10 years back. Their cruisers were really well built and reliable. My old FJ40 was built by this shop and through 10 years of HARD wheeling in my FJ40 it never broke, ever. That shop would build cages out of Sch40 pipe. I saw one of their cages in a cruiser roll 4 times on Potato Salad Hill in Moab. The truck landed on it's wheels and other than scratched paint on the cage you'd never know it had rolled.

My sliders on my FJ40 were Sch40 as well and they were BEAT and held up great.

Even though tubing is more ideal for stuff like this, the Pipe will work just fine.

Sorry buddy it's the other way around. Tubing is in OD sizes and thin walled .065" is common.

Pipe on the other hand, as previously stated, is measured differently. (Example nominal pipe size of "2" inch pipe is 2 3/8" OD). Sch 40, sch 80 (thick shit)

Thats the terminology used in the industry.

    Glad I could help.

Specialized, the bumper is looking good. Is it fully welded on or is it bolt on?

how do you like the eastwood paints? I was going to use their stuff for rust prevention but opted for the por15 just because of all the success I have heard around the site. Pricey though
