Looks like you removed the old speaker and just screwed the new one to the old mounting bracket. I hate that Toyota used custom mounts for those 6x9's...

that's the entire reason for baffles. if it weren't an ussue, you could just slap the speaker in place with some foam or sealer between it and the sheet steel, and drill new holes.

 

I figured the only reason people hadn't done that more often was lack of skill/time or something. I've only seen a few people actually install speakers on here really. haha

 

i hope it's not a lack of skill or time lol. i suck at carpentry, and it only took me about a half hour to make the 4 mdf baffles.

There are probably quite a few people on here who can't even tear their door panels apart. haha

What did you use to cut those? I need to do that one of these days, but I am currently saving my money for suspension. I have the factory JBL system and it is garbage... Hell the 6x9's in the doors hit harder than that little sub in the back. haha

 

6x9s (especially good aftermarket) put out a very solid punch! that's why i waited 2 years afterwards before i installed subs.

i just used a $30 jigsaw from home depot to cut them out.

I just want to put some nice speakers in the doors with a small amp to power them, and then remove the OEM sub. I don't need a sub. If I want bass I have my car for that. haha Nothing like 450 watts RMS through two 12's. haha

 

i ran the 4 replacement speakers, stock tweeters, and aftermarket rear tweeters off of the stock head unit for a while without an amp. so if space is an issue for the amp, i would just buy nice, efficient speakers and not worry about the amp.

 

I doubt space will be an issue. There is always room under the seats I'm sure. haha Would be cool to find a pretty small one I could cram in the dash somewhere.

The biggest thing I like about running speakers off amps is the sound doesn't get distorted as you crank the volume. I can turn the headunit up in my car as high as it goes and the sound is still really clear, whereas speakers ran on a headunit start to distort around 70-80% of the max volume.

Actually took a lot of work.,..

Cut, sand, the factory spider, cut, sand, smooth entire raised portion of the inner door panels grill, cut sand and deburr notches in the door sheet metal to clear screws from speaker to bracket, hijacked signal from tweeters since Toyota sends signal to them first and then to the lower driver.

With no instructions, it was just an idea I had to make a set of speakers that all websites said "will not fit" and no adapters could fix this......

Its due to these speakers having a fairly tall tweeter/super tweeter platform I assume.......

Even after removing all the lip from the door panel, the cross bar for the tweeter guard contacted the tiny vertical ribs on the door panel grills and those are only about 1/4" tall. Clearance was verified by using a dab of antisieze on the raised portions of the speakers frame and I checked for the antisieze transfer on the door panel.

Was actually quite a bit of work but I saved some money and gave me something to do that I've never seen done before.

This is def not a "cutout old driver, insert new driver, put back together ordeal..

Yes, the magnet clears the window too. I checked it multiple times as I was working.

took 4 guys to load this HALF of the toolbox into the truck..........Suspension had plenty of travel and didnt look like it squatted at all.



and the other half........... 2 guys struggled to lift.





Between it being a flawless floor model, and signing up for a credit card, they took $400 off, and maintained their standard 3yr no hassle replacement warranty. I had no intention on getting this, it just happend. I didnt like the stereo idea, but the price was too good to pass up... After a few hours moving tools from my old chest to this one, it was nice to have the stereo integrated in the toolchest (its a simple single DIN cd/mp3/USB/am/fm), along with a powerbar/surge protector built in. This meant I could ditch the rather large stereo I used to use, and also has a power source.
No, theres no fridge on this particular model (but its available if u really want it).......... But that woulda cut out 3 drawers, and Id worry about condensation. Besides, a stereo is gimmicky enough IMHO.

BTW, if ur ever looking for those black/charcoal liners that u cut to fit... DO NOT buy them in the tool department or u will be paying a large premium, and theres usually 22" wide rolls for $20 and up.

Go to Lowes in the section where they keep the INTERIOR shelf supplies. You will see contact paper for lining the bottom of your cupboards..... Keep looking and u will see the exact same liner material that is in the tool department, but its only $12 and it comes in a 10ft x 24" roll!
My only issue with the toolbox was the top shelf liner had some tears........ The manager showed me their rols of 22" liners...... A: this wasnt wide enough and B: the price was insane. I asked where the interior cupboard/shelving liners were. Low and behold I found what I needed and he was surprised. He said he had no idea it was the same exact shit. Funny it was in the interior decorating section and far from the tools, because the picture on the label shows TOOLS on it!
