HomerTaco's big old bucket o’ bolts build

They are couple inches longer than stock but also incorporate an angle. These XJ shackles are also known as "banana" shackles.
They are of course grease-able.

They'll provide some additional lift but what I'll be doing is pairing them with a Dakar leaf pack and a shock relo.

Add a trac bar to aid with the axle wrap & call it done.

Just doing my usual parts gathering process now.

 

Maybe get greasable bolts too, for the metal-to-metal as well. Any plans on different shocks? Resi's perhaps? I also have the ext 5100s, and like them

 

I have no real interest in the resi shocks. For what I do with my truck I think it's overkill.
I'm more interested in getting the dakar pack and these shackles done first, then I'll play around with the shocks.

I've got the 5100 B110 billies too. They work just fine for now.

resis are not needed at all for crawling with these trucks. I've only been able to get the 2'' rear resis hot to the touch (still not burning) a handful of times, and that was really trying, and nothing near crawling. have't been able to affect the fronts yet.

With the stock UCA's I'm rubbing the cab mount like a mofo.

Angle grinder will make an appearance this weekend.

I'm good on them for street but need more work to be able to wheel safely.

 

Sometimes I miss my 35's.

Major rub even before full lock.
Started in with the spark making tool & took this off both sides:

(just under 1/2" off both sides)

Now at full lock:

Got a 1/4" to spare.

Serious offset wheels so the UCA's are no issue


It's no ramp but a little wall in my backyard to just flex the rear a bit for the hell of it:





Happy to report that it handles excellent on the highway @ 70mph and 2650rpms

Honestly brought the performance back to as close to stock as it has been since I sized up to 295's with no re gear.

Now to make it trail worthy with these suckers...

i may be running 35s by moab next year....plus some other goodies hopefully.

truck is looking bad ass tho buddy...making me work hard trying to keep up with you hahaha

really hope to see you out west again this spring...seems like a great testing ground for the new upgrades

Just curious what was the speedo at?

 

From my previous post I'm guessing 70mph actual - speedo was at 75 - rpms in the 2600 to 2700 range.
Radar said 70 and was flashing like it was pissed at me.

 

Umm...if your speedo said 75 you were more doing like 82.5 your speedo should be off by 10% exactly with 35s...

 

with 295's geared at 4.56 my speedo would be @ 75mph and I would clock at 65mph in a construction zone.

Now with the 35's @75mph on the speedo I clock 70mph on the radar.
