Disable Seat Belt Alarm 2013 - Factory method DIY

I think I'll just USE my seat belt. Problem solved.

True true, however, there are situations where the alarm is a major pain:

OP mentioned offroading. Sometimes you need to unstrap to position your body to see an obstacle.
Sometimes I'll leave it running with my wife sitting in air-conditioned comfort while I run up to the ATM, or in to pay a bill.
Road head.

It's the same with the "key in the ignition" alarm (which is easy enough to disable).... Shooting and flying RC planes in the desert... I like to leave the doors open to listen to the stereo, or when I stop for gas, maybe I want to leave the radio on for my wife, or maybe I just don't want to remove the key and put it back in my pocket.

 

Yeah I agree. I was just fuckin with them. I agree it would be a pain to listen to it while off roading and the things you mention.

Yup... that or you can just buckle it behind you if you are wheeling in the woods. Not a ideal situation but it works.

 

For offroad, I really wish we had the option that we had in the 70s... separate buckles so you can use only the lap belt.

I remember my mom's '69 Buick, the shoulder harness had a warning not to use it if you were shorter than 4'7"... I measured myself every week until I was tall enough to wear it.

No retractors for the shoulder harness... there were two wire spring clips on the edge of the headliner where there is usually an "oh shit handle"... you unbuckled the harness, and tucked it back up.
When I inherited the car, I used it, my friends didn't.
My '67 Chevelle that I inherited from grandma didn't have shoulder harnesses, didn't have retractors for the seat belts, and until my dad installed them, didn't have seat belts for the back seat or the center front.
Dad's '63 Falcon didn't have any belts at all.

 

I remember when I was a kid laying down on the "shelf" behind the back seat right by the window waving at everyone when we were traveling. Those were the good ole days lol... How the hell I made it to 44 is beyond me

 

I want to disable the passenger alarm so the truck stops loosing its shit when my dog is riding shotgun. I know there are other ways to deal with this.....

Bought a cheap ELM327 Bluetooth device on ebay.
Connected to it via Bluetooth using my smart phone (password: 1234)
Installed a terminal program on my phone.
Typed in the codes.
Done!


10 min. and 10 bucks later no CHIME!

 

Another option: look into seatbelt extenders from your dealer. I read conflicting things about the seatbelt sensors effect on airbag function, so I didn't mess with the spring inside the belt receiver or with the programming.

The seatbelt extenders are actually pretty useful anyway, especially if you wear heavier clothing or are really fat and have trouble finding the receiver to buckle up. Either way...I bought 2 extenders and leave them plugged in all the time. When I unbuckle my seat belt, the extender prevents the ridiculous chine from sounding off. And if you don't want them there all the time, just pop them out and stow them in your console.

FYI: you will likely need to fill out an incredibly annoying form, complete with a few in truck/body measurements before the dealer will give you the extenders. Mine had to be ordered, and cost maybe $5-6 a piece. Well worth it. I too hit lots of slow speed, non-technical off road trails and woods roads where a seatbelt seems ridiculous and inconvenient and the alarm would drive me crazy.

Lots of times when my dog is riding in the back seat of my access cab, I will have loads of gear on the passenger seat. Sure would be nice to be able to disable the beeps. And even though I live in the only state in the nation without a mandatory seat belt law, I always wear it.

 

There is an easter egg that I did a while back. One of those open the door, turn ignition on, close door, turn ignition off, buckle seatbelt... kind of things. It doesn't beep all the time, but if I get over 20 or 30 mph it does start up again.
How does this compare to that? Is it completely off?

 

Hey guys, my 13 sport dbl cabs seatbelt beep shuts off after about 30 seconds and doesn't beep again unless I turn the truck off and restart it. Does anybody else's do that or does the beep stay on all the time?

 

Can you use a tablet instead of a computer?

This is the procedure for the 4Runner. I haven't tried it on the Tacoma yet but it definitely works on the 4R.
Make sure the ODO/TRIP switch displays "ODO"
Turn the ignition switch "Off"
Turn the ignition switch "On"
Press ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds after turning the power switch on) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more
Continue holding the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the seat belt
Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-off" (it will be "b-on")
Press the ODO/TRIP button to change the display to "b-off"
Turn the ignition switch off.
