Maybe hit up some local junk yards and buy some windows to make your own?
Windshield will be a no-go because it is just a laminated glass that doesn't shatter into the little pebbles. Back window is a maybe.

    He lives in Escondido.
It'll take him half an afternoon to collect 50 pounds.

the bucket is about 50 lbs worth of glass already, probably more. I scooped it in about 5 minutes. If I can clean it, that's at least 250 bucks worth and I did think of the windshield..the laminate on it is a problem.

this particular glass looked like it came from the top of a glass table or something

The laminate is part of the problem, but a windshield is a different type of safety glass and does not shatter into the little beads, even if separated from the laminate. If windshields were tempered the same as side windows, a rock impact would blast the entire windshield and the driver would be blind.

Side windows, and I believe rear windows, will shatter into pea-sized pellets that, while still having sharp edges, do not splinter into shards that will stab into skin.

Hey what about some sort of acid to disintegrate the rock? It's sand stone so it crumbles relatively easy

if it's sandstone you should be able to dissolve it in water. Might take a few days though.

    Muriatic acid will dissolve lime.
Not sure about sandstone, and since glass is sand, it may not touch it... or it may dissolve any lime binding the sandstone, leaving you with something you could rinse through a screen strainer.

Muriatic acid doesn't dissolve sandstone , at least not quickly

Before I got to deep into the project I would start checking Craigslist for people looking to get rid of their aquariums...

You would certainly have some luck if you went to a glass company and asked if they had any tempered glass that was cut and baked to the wrong size... they just might give it to you for free since it can't be cut again.

Items like shower doors and panels would yield quite a bit for you.
