I am considering a model D27F yellow top battery for my top. The specs have it at 8.5" tall compared to the 7.5" factory battery in my truck.

Any issues with the terminal locations?
Do the stock cables fit without bending/extending/stretching them?
Does the battery tie down strap still fit?

Any feedback or pictures would be much appreciated. I looked at the red top but it the dimensions are way smaller than the stock battery and I'm trying to fill up the old tray and be able to run my stereo and AC inverter so I figured the yellow top would be best.

As long as the terminals are on the correct side, the cables will reach and you can get a "universal" tie down for it. I ran one for a while in the stock location, but it has since been relocated.

I prefer to stay away from the universal tie downs.

I had a red top years ago. I wasn't impressed. It didn't perform any better than a regular battery and in less than two years it wouldn't hold a charge. I've been running Interstate ever since then and have been very happy with them.

Use group 35 like Optima's website says. 11 lbs lighter.

I think I'm going to go with an Interstate battery as well. Trying to find the D27F yellowtop locally is a joke and if it goes bad I'll be waiting days for another. And after researching it for a while it seems like Johnson Controls makes about every battery available in the states.

I will NEVER buy an American "wet" battery EVER again because I got sick of those dumb f***ers drooling acid out the vents and fill caps. :frusty:

My last Optima red top lasted 10 years in my gen1 Taco, and I have an Optima red top in my gen2 Taco.:)

IMHO, if heavy vibration is a major concern, flat Plate AGM batteries will handle vibration better that wet batteries but not as well as spiral wound AGM.

Followed by Exide and East Penn, in that order.

Never had a wet one leak, but I am not a heavy into offroad. So I know there is a need for some users.

As for optima, they went south in recent years (2007 last year made in US) and are not made in the same facility as in previous years. Quality for most has been less than ideal. They are made in mexico now.

I had a red in a couple of previous vehicles (racing application) and would not put it in if it was given to me. The yellows seem to be regarded positively by most users compared to the red tops.

Odyssey Batteries picked up and improved were optima left off. P.S. Diehard platinum models are made by odyssey if you need a local replacement asap.
