What should i Expect Pro Dry S

Im thinking about buying a Pro Dry S airfilter. Im looking to add some more power to my 2.7l 4 banger. I drive a regular cab Taco and noticed its power struggle during a drive from California to AZ. A little Treck called the Indio stretch is a series of large long hills that last about 10 miles. If there are any suggestions to cheaply increase the power to my Taco please let me know. I have been searchin on these forums all night and it seems that everyone hates K&N and uses the Pro Dry S. I really want to increase the power because I will be making that drive quite a bit in the next few months. I also read about the elbow mod.

 

Have you removed the 2ndary air filter?

Secondary air filter? when i open up my box i have a single filter in there.... im very nubish at this stuff....

 

do a search, it's a very easy 5 minute mod. I removed mine and added the pro-dry filter. It's not a huge improvement by any means. Makes me feel better though.

I got the afe awhile back. Iwas wondering how much does the secondary filter help? Id kinda forgotten about it. Neslarrah did you remove yours?

Yes I did. It took me about 5 mins total. There is a better throttle response. I do not know how it affect my MPG. I did not keep track of my MPG before and after I did the MOD.

 

I think you'll find drop-in filters, no matter the brand, are really good for re-use, not much performance gain...if any. I've got the aFe Pro-Dry...but I bought it so I don't have to ever buy another air filter again, not because it'll had power.

so if i were to take out my Air filter right now... the secondary air filter should lay beneath it? because if thats the case.... as of right now with no modifications... my truck came stock without a secondary air filter.

 

the secondary air filter is on the uupper part of your airbox (the lid).i took mine of it makes a difference in throttle response but no huge gains.it worth doing

 

do the 1st gen trucks have a secondary airfilter, becasue in the guide it said they did not.

ok guys heres the lowdown. on my 2008 toyota reg cab 2.7L in the air box i have replaced the stock paper air filter with a Pro DRy s filter and i have also removed the secondary air filter. the secondary filter is located above the paper aif filter in the airbox itself. now you may hear alot of crap from toyota dealers saying" oh, if you do this itll mess up your engine and cause you to spend more money to fix it". well theyre wrong. it totally made my gas mpg go up, it decreased my rpms at idel and i also have much better throttle response. there is a whole write up on how to do this mod. gentlemen, this mod is worth every penny to the 4 cyl owner.

 

I have mixed feelings about the ProDry S drop in. There has been a slight decrease in mileage since installing the ProDry and removing the secondary filter.(confirmed by putting the original factory filter back in for 1000 miles) Sometimes I like the extra sound/noise from the intake when I step on the throttle hard, but hate the extra drone on the highway at higher speeds. The only real benefit is the fact that it does not have to be replaced.

 

My pro dry is coming in Friday, just installed a hi flow muffler so I'll let you guys know of any changes .
