    Hi All,

What do you think a reasonable price would be for a 98 extended cab, 4x4, 2.7 4cyl would be in the following condition: 160k miles, broken leaf spring on pass side, cracked exhaust manifold, several places of rust perforation on the frame, dented rear bumper, rust through top of rear fenders above wheel. Other than those it's in pretty good shape, interior is nice, engine solid with no problems.

Trying to figure out whether what the dealer offered me on this as a trade in is a ripoff or not.

$2,000, tops. The rust really kills the value.

Without any rust the truck is worth about 6500-7, with that much rust I would say 2-2500. It will cost a good 3-5000 to fix all of that rust when its all said and done

Considering selling it on the open market will be tough. However if you have the skills then fix it up and sell it yourself

I'd say $2k trade in with a bad frame and all the other problems is very generous...

If it were me i'd take their offer concidereing what condition the truck is in... like mentioned you'd have trouble selling it to a private party.

Some of this Some of that
2k from a dealer for a truck they consider worthless is pretty good. Maybe more than you'd get from private party

Once the frame rots out it's a parts truck, IMHO. Replacing the frame is more than the blue book value for sure, and welding on a rusty frame is big time liability. Would you buy a truck with a repaired frame?

Sorry to say it, but I would call a junkyard and ask what they would give you for it then decide whether to take the dealer's offer, or perhaps part it out yourself.

Reality is that they are not going to resell it themselves, they might give it to a shady used car dealer for $500 bucks or so, but I kinda doubt even a shady used dealer is going to pay $2K for it. By the time they finish welding the frame up and changing a few things on it I don't see how they would make money off it.

    Good luck.
