Happy Vetrans day you guys! Thanks to all the veterans out there and a most sincere thanks to those service men and women who cannot return home, as they give more than any of us ever could

Whats up guys, heading to Phoenix (from Atlanta) in January for a photography conference, looking into things to do, wondered if you could throw some input.

We're staying at Hotel San Carlos and probably want to go out each night in town.

on our off days as of yet we may make the drive to the Grand Canyon and The Apache Trail looks fun...
    thanks for the input!

That hotel puts you right downtown so you have lots of options. Tons of great restaurants and things to do, especially right around Chase Field and US Airways arena. Was just down there a few days ago to catch Flip Orly at Stand Up Live and then had dinner at The Arrogant Butcher. Both are right across the street from US Airways arena in a big square with lots to do. During the week is a bit slow for the downtown nightlife but weekends should be hopping. Get out of downtown Phoenix and come up to north Scottsdale for a different crowd.. much wealthier area and the club and restaurant scene is very "interesting". Hotties and cougars galore. Check out Scottsdale Quarter and that area for some spots to hang.

Apache Trail is pretty decent, but if you're looking for some better trails, there are unlimited options. I recommend taking the drive up to Crown King (access from the I-17 highway) and go up there to eat a greasy burger in this sleepy little town's saloon. You'll go from 1500' elevation in Phoenix to over 6,000' in the pines up in Crown King in less than 50 mile's drive. 25 miles of graded dirt road so cars can make it.

If you do go to the Grand Canyon, there's lots to see on the way up. Stop in Sedona on your way out of Phoenix, and then spend some time in Flagstaff.

These are just the basics, and I'm sure others will chime in.
