You don't think he'll notice a difference when he checks the stick at 3k and he's staring at some smelly burnt-out shit oil? I'd come back to the shop with a shotgun.

Yup. Took my old Yota to an oil place once when I was short on time. They used some el cheepo crap and were shy a quart. Then I started shit talking to everyone I know who who went there. If anyone mentions that place I still shit talk them, and it's been a lot of years.

So I was going to re-torque my spacers yesterday and discovered the engraved locknut on the front passenger wheel had failed right at the top where the key way for the socket is, leaving a useless lugnut stub and the top of the lug exposed. Anyone else run across this before? Wondering if I should upgrade to the gorilla lug nuts?

Quite a few places like to offer services they never do. Even worse when they supposedly perform such service without consent first.

The first name wouldn't happen to be "Jiffy" would it?

Yep. I even get a discount on service at my local garage because I give them all my spent oil for them to burn and heat their shop. Last time, they knocked off $5/wheel mounting and balancing my wife's winter tires because I brought them a couple gallons of spent oil. Can't beat that.

They insisted I needed front diff service on my Tacoma at 15k.

    The payoff is it's a 2 wheel.

See, that's how badly it needed servicing! It was so neglected, that it eroded away! You should really take better care of your vehicles to prevent these kinds of charges

I've had a lug fail, but never popped a nut like that. I upgraded to the gorillas to get a little more thread engagement. So far I'm a fan.

    That's a sweet deal.

Yeah and at only 15k, you'd think it should last longer..it's not a Chevy!

Well, I've got those thicker alloy wheels which reduces the amount of useable thread once you install them. There are two options- replace the lugs with longer ones, or install these lug nuts

The section below the taper affords two or three more threads to engage.

I've had a set like that before. I just want a set that doesn't look like crap after a couple seasons.

Probably the best way to prevent frame rust too. guaranteed more effective than fluid film

    Yowzas.
I was just over on the "30 and younger" thread.
That thread moves WAY too fast for me to keep up with. By the time I respond to a post they're three pages further along.

On an unrelated note, I found out today that my boss's '10 Ranger (with roughly 35k on the clock) has had exactly 1 oil change.
He doesn't run synthetic, either. Just cheapo no-name oil. When the motor starts knocking he checks the level, and if it's low he adds more. When it's knocking and the level's up, he gets it changed. Then when his cars hit 100k (If they make it that far:eek:) he changes the oil, adds some lucas, and trades it in.

Might be your hint that you're phasing out of the under 30 thread and need to step up to the old timers thread

One day, that'll blow up on your boss. With the way vehicles are made these days, he won't make it to 100k miles many more times with that sort of maintenance routine.
