Do y'all's girlfriend's/wives like your beards? Mine hates it in the summer, but loves it in the winter.

My gf has been talking about doing the paleo diet. Anybody know much about it? The only thing I'm not sure about is it's really low carb. I've always been relatively high carb. Has anyone tried bulking on a low carb diet?

    Bone stock. For now.
It's not necessarily a low carb diet. It is whole foods though, so your carbs will mainly come from fresh or cooked vegetables. For people starting on the paleo I would recommend a "modified" version, such as being able to still eat processed foods maybe once a week, sheerly for sanity's sake. But with the diet's recent growth in popularity there are a ton of sources out there.

Personally, I did it last year for a Paleo Challenge we did at my CrossFit box. I could really tell a difference in how I looked and felt. My breathing was better during workouts. Now I eat a modified version.

I did 100% paleo for a full month last year. It was the beginning of me breaking through my 200 lb plateau onto a peak of 220, now resting around 212. The carbs were never an issue. You get carbs from meats and vegetables as well. I was never low on energy and my gains were astounding. It also showed me that I have an intolerance to gluten. When I came back to gluten my body just wouldn't take it any more. I used to have pretty bad gastrointestinal issues as well that are all but nonexistent now. I am a strong believer in the program. I didn't follow any sort of super strict dieting regimen, I more or less just ate when I was hungry and made sure to eat the right things. Only reason I stopped was due to it being quite expensive and I was in college at the time.

Now, I am about an 85% paleo dieter as I do consume quite a bit of dairy and I also will consume wheat products from time to time when I just can't avoid them. During those times I take a pill called gluten cutter. It helps digest the gluten and I don't get any of the stomach cramping going on like I am used to. I am going to try to peg down my diet again here real soon.

Cool, thanks guys. We both eat clean, but she's wanting to take it up a notch. Cheese and pasta are two of my favorite foods! My protein sources are pretty lean and natural, but I love my whole wheat and dairy. This is gonna be tough

Dairy is kind of an iffy one... It's not technically against the rules as far as the nutritional content ingested. However, it was not consumed in the Paleolithic era so... Take it as you will. I went without dairy for that month. I drink a gallon of milk every few days now lol.

I never thought I had an issue with dairy, until I cut it out for a month. I really didn't notice until I went back to it. My body just does not process dairy well. Most people's don't.

Not really, but I don't seem to notice any EXTRA problems with it. Ill cut it out when I go real clean, but when I cut out bread I was like dammit I'm not losing cheese too!!!

What about whey protein? If I can't have my whey, life just isn't worth living!

beats being called skinny IMO! But no, your bf is lower than mine! I've lost all my definition

    I've never had any :p

And my body didn't seem to care about the absence of whey. Full disclosure, I had maybe 3 protein shakes during that month of full paleo when I was really behind on calorie counts for the day. Well I didn't count calories, but I'd miss an entire meal for example and didn't have access to good stuff.

Damn. I have 2 a day. 100g of my daily protein intake comes from shakes! I know that's high, but I'm on the go a lot with school and can't eat every 2 hrs, so I throw in 2 50g shakes. I guess I could try soy or some shit, but that just sounds disgusting!

I do 2 a day most days. Mostly for the sake of time. It's just so damned convenient!
