Has anyone thought of using Boeshield for rust? I have used it on boats and my dad used it on his table saw and it is magic with rust removal/protectant.

It's just baby oil with some wax suspended in it. I bet it would work though.

    Or this :

    http://www.corrosionfree.com/rust_care.htm

"This is the best Anti-Corrosion Product Canadian Tire Carries. This statement is NOT opinion, It's fact. According to a meticulous study conducted by Armed Forces Canada a few years ago, 9 different rust prevention products were tested and Formula 3000 emerged as the most effective at preventing corrosion from forming when samples were exposed to the most harsh conditions. As an added benefit, this product also ranked 2nd out of the 9 in terms of the least amount of dirt and debris that stuck to it during the testing. Google the words "CANADIAN ARMED FORCES CORROSION STUDY" to see the full government report for yourself. I purchased 3 cans of it to coat the underbody of my truck after learning of these experiments. Of course, this was after I foolishly neglected to treat my truck for 2 winters and using this product not only neutralized the existing rust, but it prevented any further rust from forming. When it was sprayed on, there was a foaming action that appeared to literally destroy the rust and this foaming action would continue to force itself into every little imperfection in the metal. Afterwards, there was no dripping whatsoever because it would congeal into a highly viscous gel-like consistency. Since using this product, I have not used anything else. Finally, what is also quite noteworthy is the fact that included in the products tested in this study were ones used by the service professionals. In other words, this stuff out performed some of the chemicals used by those shops that charge you hundreds of dollars."

POR 15 isn't a final coat meant to be exposed to the elements. In the interior, its ok to leave it bare. On the frame, or especially areas exposed to UV, it should be painted over. I believe that was in the instructions included with the kit I got.

Big "wonder formula" 10 years ago was "Nocorrode"... supposedly it prevented corrosion when fogged into aircraft that had been in floods.

    Never heard about it again.

" This statement is NOT opinion, It's fact. According to a meticulous study conducted by Armed Forces Canada a few years ago"

    Reeks of snake oil.
Do they cite the studies? No... just a nebulous reference to the Canadian Military and "a few years ago"

But at least their web site doesn't have testimonials. That's the quickest way to turn me off. I'll get my word of mouth from your shills on the forums :D

Rich, I think you're on Wikipedia too much. Seriously, either you're really good at representing the knowlege of the interwebds as your own or you're one of the smartest people I've never met. I'm still not sure which it is, but dang.

    Oh and happy 13k!

Sometimes I'll look something up to confirm or refresh my memory.
I'll use that information to add details.

But I knew what to look for ;)

Well you're a welcome wealth of knowledge my friend. It honestly used to piss me off sering you pop up in every thread with the right answer. Then I conceded victory to you and have been fine ever since. I had to justify it by saying I had a better head of hair but hey, baby steps to maturity. Baby steps.

Also, more on topic, I went through the entire process of POR15 from cleaning to the top coat on my sliders, had them down to brand new steel, not a speck of dirt on them, dis the cleansing and etching process, then the POR, then the paint, and its already coming off 5 weeks in. I was told by the local offroad shop that I got them "too clean". The mechanic said he left his sliders out in the rain for 2 months and didnt prep at all save dirt removal and his sliders havent peeled after 7 years of hard wheeling.

    LOL!

    No victory.... no contest.
It's not about being smarter, it's about sharing information to help people avoid mistakes that I've made and seen made.

I've built my career around NOT being the smartest guy around. I always try to make sure that I have someone that I can go to for answers. When people begin to look to me as being the smartest guy, I begin to look to move elsewhere, or to bring in someone else.

And hair is overrated. I don't have to invest in shampoo, I don't have to worry about rain ruining my style, I don't have to worry about shaping the sideburns when shaving, and I would wear hats even if I had hair.

It also says ”Hazard Category: Non Hazardous Substance” In the land down under they say things a little differently it is an oil therefore it is petroleum. By spraying it,it does not mysteriously become motor oil It's lanolin oil the same stuff in many hand creams, water proofing etc it comes from sheep not from a drilled well.

My grandfather used to do the used motor oil trick on all his vehicles and I grew up in the northeast and he never hardly had any rust .
