It's making me re-think my idea of doing a bed rack and consider something else innovative for a RTT. I have no idea what that innovation would be - probably something removable...

Were you able to understand what I was trying to describe at Tallons? I was kinda drunk, so it probably didn't make sense.

Basically, a wraparound pseudo-exo frame/rack that would go above the canopy and tie-in to the sliders (add a kick-up and mating tube) and the rear bumper. Ambitious but do-able.

With the amount of armor he has that is easily plausible.

Hmmm.. Not sure if I even recall the conversation. Too much Grey Goose. :D. The idea sounds cool but anything I picture in my head looks kind of dorky. Maybe it's just because it's something different. Would be cool to hear more about it next time we meet.

Advertised curb weight for 2013 DCLB is 4220 lb. There's still 170 lb somewhere. Did you weigh in with a full tank? 21.1 gal of gasoline is 128 lb.

this got meinterested, so i searched back to an embarrassing day, lol, i found a ticket for a day i prob. never forget, i ran out of gas at the yard, lol! but when considering the above items and the weight of them this should be pretty accurate.... see attached pic of bill, for those who not very scrapper minded, tare weight is the weight of your truck with everythingin it when you enter the yard, less the weight of your load. when you drive into the yard you pass the scale, they look at what you got to judge price per ton/ pound depending on the metal (sometimes have to argue a bit, lol) then they weigh your truck. you drive in the yard and unload. then you drive back over the scale and they weigh you again.

they take the weight they recorded when you drove into the yard, then subtract the weight of your truck when you left the yard to calculate the weight of what you left in the yard and therefore how much they pay you for your load.

"tare" is the difference, which is the weight of you, your truck and anything you 'walked in' with and the weight of everything you are leaving with, follow?

probably way over simplified for most of you, so throw me a bone, just trying to make sure everyone who may look understand what the heck they looking at :)

so check out attached pic of a real ticket to see what real world is :)

    cheers,
    disco

    ---------------------------- EDIT ----------------------------
for the MPG worried peeps, with me in the truck plus installed mods/equipment, and lets estimate 150lbs tools.

    so me+installed items+internal mods like stereo= easy about 500

    190lbs(roughly) + 200lbs(bull bar/side bars/cover/etc)+75lbs(stereo)= almost 465lbs

    thats a low estimate

(not including little stuff like sirius and xm tuners, 6 laser jammers, full countermeasure system, upgraded NAV system, several antennas, infrared military spot lights and all the other little stuff no one thinks about, all those little devices weigh a few pounds, dont forget about those)

running at ave 89-93 MPH (about 1900-2000 or so RPMS for 50-100 miles) i ave. about 11-13MPH. with the speed and added weight, in the city ave 14MPG, if i play a bit, back to about 13MPG) if i REALY try, like no big accel. or 'racing at the stop light' lol, i have stretched it to 16MPG. if that helps you understand how much weight and speed matter for MPG!

    cheers,
    disco

( i always get lame flamers regarding countermeasures and speed, so don't even bother with any neg. comments about that, i have posted volumes on details of systems and MY safety devices and rules that i follow religiously that show i travel 100x safer than anyone on the road, lookup disco's rules) :)

LOL, thats super easy bro, walk around the house, ask your neighbor if ya can poke in the garage clean it a bit, load up te truck with anything metal, head to the local scrap yard, get some weight info and get your gas money back too :)

if you collect about 500 pounds of random light metal, your toaster, your bike, your neighbors old fridge, you gonna get about $30-$40 thats called light iron, some call it sheet iron (SCRAPPERS DONT START CHIMING IN YES I KNOW RATES DAILY THIS IS FOR AVERAGE FOLKS!)

if you get 500 pounds of heavy iron, like iron/steel pipe, rebar, steel plate, 'red iron' the i-beams, drill pipe, you get the idea... you can add another 30% EASY

NOW if you take the 'heavy iron and make sure its cut in pieces where no measurement is over 48 to 56 inches (depending on the yard you can add another 50% to 100% on top of that depending on your area and yard.

if you spend a few minutes everyday, taking the long way home, like drive through a neighborhood or industrial area on the way home instead of taking the interstate or hwy directly home, you can make a good bit.

i large fridg/freezer you see on the side of the road is about $8, if i see it on the way home, ill pick it up, unload in backyard in a small space the old lady allows me :) , pickup other itms for about 3 more days thats the most she allow, lol, then divert about 2 miles on the way to work one day, on ave result will be about $70-$80.

NOW dont say wait hold on, above you said 400-500 lbs get me 30$-40$, well with about an extra 15-20 minutes spent and about $2 of sawzal blades, cut out the coils, anything roughly aluminum, copper etc, doesnt have to be clean and seperate that, so lets say it took you 20 min to do that, 2min per day extra drive time and a couple minutes to load/unload, you made about $70-$80 - $3 for blade, so for almost no work, from free materials in about an extra 30min maybe 40min spent over 3-4 days you made profit of approx $75 :) for basically doing nothing :)

if you takethe time to seperate your metals, that 400lb load, on ave, i would say would easily be worth $200-$400 depending on what you have :)

so go get some free weight specs on your truck, maybe even free gas money to get there, and maybe even make a few $$$$$$

(i used to run the gulfcoast branch of a major environmental, remediation and demolition corporation, i know my scrap, lol! and i know between the Deepwater Horizon event and the 2005 hurricane season every single one of you have seen me on tv or in the newspaper :) )

rough rule of thumb i found is:
when ya see truck start to sag a little ya at about 400lbs, when it sags to where you notice its about 500lbs in the bed

... so go make some $$$ welcome to the world of scrapping,
WARNING!!!!! the money is addictive :)

    cheers,
    disco

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
    That's pretty-much the same method I used.

Went to the dump with no load (daily driving weight) and pulled up on the entrance scale. I explained to the lady working the booth what I was doing, and she laughed but agreed it was a good idea....then she laughed again at how heavy I was (5480lbs).

"Might as well get a full-size" she chuckled....

    :brianr:

I will stop by again tomorrow after filling-up and post the results.

Nope stock tires , could be their scale . Or my jl 10 and rockford amp weight more then I calculated . But I also have the stock 8" sub removed .

I'm just glad I have a base number so if I do change wheels and tires , as long I go back to the same scale I can calculate the change .

Long time ago a buddy and I loaded up the truck with a bunch of scrap from around the shop and took it to the scrap yard. We pulled through the scales 2-3 times after unloading each type of metal. On the last pass my buddy walked back to the scale.... we thought we were going to pull one over on the old guy. He comes over the speaker and says: "Reckon our friend there weighs about 259 right?" That's exactly how much Big G weighed!
