Thanks guys. I caught myself so I didn't fall all the way through. I guess "stepped through the ceiling" might be more appropriate.

The ceiling is peeling in several spots so I decided to just patch the hole and leave it till we redo the whole room. Still a pain in the ass and not something I wanted to do though lol

 

My former roommate is an installer for Cox cable. On one of his first jobs, he was running cable in a customer's attic and fell. He crashed through the ceiling and landed perfectly on the family room couch in a seated position.

 

I'm building a woodshed off the side of an existing building currently and got a chance to try out these new knife plate post saddles / hold downs by Simpson

They are pretty cool I have to say

First you use the knife plate as a template to mark the hole locations on the post ( forgot to take a pic of that ) then you fasten it into the concrete , I used 1/2" galvanized redi rod epoxied into the wall



You drop on the powdercoated 1" stand off base



Drop on your post and use the included galvanized 1/2" drift pins or through bolts ( I'm going to use bolts )

 

The tough part of using these is cutting the actual knife slot to accept the plate , it needs to go right through the post and be 4 3/4" tall , you could cut up each side with a regular circular saw and try to cut out the left over portion with a reciprocating saw or a hand saw but that's for pussies so I just broke out my 16" Makita beam saw and cut the 4 3/4" slot out all in one pass

 

Lol that was awesome. Those saws are beasts.

 

I just bought new blades last night for my circular saw and compound miter, 7 1/4" and 10", that 16" blade is huge!


I hope you include more details about the wood shed. I've been thinking about how I want to build some firewood racks, and I need to build a new shed too.

Anyone have any pictures of covered firewood racks or sheds they've built?

Long story short.. bought a house while deployed.. my old man is renovating it while I'm away.

Started with the kitchen; tore out the complete kitchen, knocked down a wall to open everything up, upgraded the plumbing and now onto flooring and cabinets. He does pretty cheap work! hah

 

Installed the beam , 2 / 5/8" x 12" lags make the post to beam connection , the ends of the beam are fastened to the concrete with a 5/8" redi-rod through bolt epoxied into the wall

I should be able to work on the rafter system tomorrow if I'm not putting out fires for the subcontractors

 

Wow that thing is pretty serious! 6x6s and cement! Looks like it's going to be awesome though.

When I worked in the trades (HVAC-R) when they would show up….everyone would stop, and go on break till they left…haha. Most of what they do is great! Some people get on that high horse though and make life very difficult for all the wrong reasons.
