The exhaust is a mystery and I hate dumping money into it as there are so many little factors that make a big difference. The reviews are all over the place and the sound bites on the web sites are effected by the quality of your speakers. Then you get into personal taste. Making a little mistake can cost big bucks.

But the ricey whine got the best of me and I dove in to exhaust modification wonderland. After researching several high dollar custom system a common thread appeared. A three inch tube from the Y to the mufflers. On the first trip to the muffler shop the installation was cheaper than the after market system and I got talked into the available muffler which was just like the one I researched and thought would meet my needs. Sounded like my old truck from high school. I could hear back then, so it was loud enough to get the neighbors attention if I could hear it. What got to me was the loud drone at 55 mph. At 70 mph it was gone, mostly. A lot of my driving was at reduced speeds, so to kill the drone I would down shift to keep the rpm's around 2000.

Back to the research and discovered Dynomax. The one thing that got my attention was one site stated the oval muffler was quieter than the round muffler and the longer muffler had more time to change the tone and eliminate the noise.

Back to the muffler shop and hold my breath. I suspected there was an improvement when the muffler tech said, "Are you sure about this, it's not as loud as the Flowmaster." They are a Flowmaster dealer and do lots of cowboy dual exhausts. Cowboy dual exhaust = loud enough the cows will go home. Even with the redo I am still ahead of the custom internet systems.

So what did you decide to do?

The 3" tube is stainless, the muffler is steel and the tail pipe is the stock stainless. The tube was bent on a hydraulic bender with fitted mandrels. Cost is just under 325$ at this point.
