So my friend had just recently installed a leveling kit on his 08' Tacoma and just got a "Fix-it-ticket" for his speedometer as a result of the leveling kit. Would anyone happen to know how to prove to a court judge that its off?

a leveling kit will not change the error of the spedo.

Gear change or changing tire size will.

wait... if he got a fix-it ticket, why does he need to prove that there's something that needed to be fixed?

sounds to me like he needs to prove that the problem-in-question has been fixed

^Ever since he installed the leveling kit on is bone-stock truck, the tach has been 10mph off. It say's 50mph when he's actually going 60mph.. And he's wants a way to prove that's its off to bypass an actual ticket.

    Let me guess....

He lifted the truck and installed oversize tires, then when he got a ticket for doing 75 in a 45, he told the cop that his speedometer only showed 50 (even though it really showed 70), so the cop wrote him up?

The factory speedo reads 3-5mph higher than the actual speed.
If he only installed a "leveling kit" and bumped up to the typical tires used with such a kit, he probably ended up correcting his speedometer.

Auto Club used to offer speedometer calibration checks for free for members... haven't checked to see if they still do that.
Search for a local "approved speedometer repair facility" and you'll find a shop that can verify your calibration and document it.

To verify it yourself, just compare the speedo to a GPS while holding a steady speed on level ground.

As mentioned, a lift alone will not impact the speedometer calibration.
    It can't.
Speedometer calibration is electronic, and is a function of the rotation of the drive shaft.

Changing gearing or tire diameter is the only way to change it, and if he went to lower gears, it would have made the speedo read faster than he is actually going.

To get it to read 60 when he was doing 50, he would have had to go to tires LARGER than 35"

And it won't get him out of the ticket.

I tried that with my Auto Club certificate back in '85... guilty.

    Right... I get that.

My understanding of a "fix-it" ticket is that you fix the problem, show it's been fixed, and then you don't get fined
Again... it seems to me like the problem is that he needs to prove it's been fixed to avoid an actual ticket -not prove that there's something wrong; he got the fix-it ticket, in the first place, cause there' s something wrong; what are we trying to do: prove the Officer correctly gave him the ticket?

    Maybe I'm missing something...

    Mis-spoken.

He got a speeding ticket and wants the court to excuse the ticket claiming ignorance to the speedometer being off.

Problem is, if the speedometer really IS off by 10mph, it's going to cost him $300+ to get it fixed, and the court isn't going to simply excuse THIS ticket without proof from a shop that it has been fixed, because he will be able to use the same excuse for his next ticket if he doesn't fix it.

$300 is more than a speeding ticket is worth pretty much anywhere but California.

Ya, but it was the tires, not the lift that changed it.
