fluid film on rust??

I posted a quote from the Fluid Film site that confirms it is a mixture of Lanolin and refined petroleum

For that peice ill keep recycling motor oil and atf.

 

I use to have chrome wheels on my old truck, and one winter I couldint take them off for the winter, so I continuously soaked them in WD40 to keep the salt away. it seemed to work quite well. But I would think any oil would help. it will also eat some paint/undercoating though.

 

I just ordered 4 cans and it came to $63 CDN through PayPal which is the only payment they take. Was looking at FF but feel this stuff is much better from what I have read. For example.

Think it depends on risk assessment of where you live. Just went out to the parking lot to take a picture of my 2 month old red Taco which is covered in salt top to bottom. Vehicles all around it so couldn't get a clear shot but you can get the idea-


Bang for the buck I think it is a great deal and I'll save the oil for termite prevention in ground contact wood. If I ever move back South.

3rd year of Fluid film and what Maine uses on the roads for salt NH does twice as much that's how the clear the roads. The small rust spots were when I bought the truck haven't changed a bit.

From what I've read, a good blast with a pressure washer and some heavy duty degreaser is all that's needed. I'm going to see how mine is come spring time. I'm not going for total removal, just get the shit off and re-spray with more FF.

And Petroleum oil is ALWAYS crude oil, or a distillate of crude oil or synthetic product with the same properties.

Would be interested to know the ratio of the lanolin to petroleum in Fluid Film but I think I'm going to try the Formula 3000 snake oil

 

Stuff sounds cool if it performs as stated. I like the not as sticky part.

 

Could you please tell me just what is that oil? Is it dino oil? peanut oil? Sunflower oil? or grease form a grill?

 

It will get dirty all I do is wash it off the best I can with a pressure washer. I'm not after no FF just enough to get the better part of the dirt off. I just use a fan spray with the washer. Drive it up on ramps and have at it.

 

Yeah it's 36X36 The lift actually was a gift from a friend he was badly burned in an industrial accident and is handi capped he has a collection of 60's 70's cars and he used the lifts to store them. He decided that it was too much of a pain to go through the procedure each time he wanted to play with the toys and built an addition to store them on the ground so he gave me the surplus one.

 

I've had a few people recommend spraying used motor oil on the undercarriage because its free... Aside from the drippings and environmental issues it also eats anything rubber (bushings, etc.)
I'm a big fan of Fluid Film.

 

If you do it the right way...WITH A BRUSH OR RAG...it hardly drips at all and doesn't touch anything but the frame. Everybody seems to be consumed with sheep oil and what to buy in a can to spray...bullshit. Get off the internet and go work on your truck.

PS a few drops of oil on the street from someone significantly extending the life of a vehicle REAALLY pales in comparison to the expenditure of fossil fuels it takes to manufacture a new vehicle and recycle an old one
