I've used them in my Jeep and on trailers before. They work great and the the fact you can adjust the tie down point is a huge bonus. I'm sure I'll use them some where down the line as I build out this Tacoma.

Sweet, can they hold tension in any direction pretty well? I was wondering if there was an advantage to mounting them to the top of bed rails vs inside.

I have them on my bed rack. I have this brand but they look pretty much the same. I love them. I've strapped my 100qt ice chest, that was full, on my rack and wheeled the hell out of it. It held up fine. I think I have some pics in my build thread.

It depends. Do you normally have loads that are higher than your bed? If so then the side of the bed rails should work fine. The idea is that you strap items in with downward pressure. On my TJ I had them on top of the tub rails since I always had tools and heavy items strapped to the floor. These were only used for strapping in soft camping gear and folding chairs.

If I build an inside box or storage bins inside the back of the Tacoma then I'll probably mount them as low as possible. There will be dedicated cooler/toolbox/Powertank mounts so I'll only be strapping in soft goods again.

Agreed, the sides should be fine for taller loads. I was envisioning strapping heavy things to the floor as well, hence mounted in the floor of the bed. I love having options.

I saw the other ones on the site you listed 01Taco. It looks like they are standard equip for the airline industry just smartly marketed for truck guys. Either way I love the flexibility of this design as opposed to other bed racks. The only issue I see is keeping them clean from mud and debris out in the field, but hey nothings perfect.

EDIT: Damn you do good work with a welder and that CAD design for your bed rack looks awesome. Has engineer written all over it. I like your build Southern! I wish I had the skills to do design and then the skills to execute.

I've got the Core Trax brand like 01Taco. I went with four 36" track lengths in order to run two tracks the length of the bed. At the time it was cheaper than ordering a pair of 72" tracks.

I only had a couple of minor complaints when I got them. They didn't come with stainless mounting hardware and the tie downs have plastic parts that can be easily broken. I've busted two of them while loading and unloading. The tracks themselves are fine but I'll be picking up metal tie downs when I start running low on the plastic ones (only got six left)

I might have to get at least one of these to mount my HiLift. Should be sturdy enough to hold it since there are multiple mounting points in the tie down to the rail

dedfinately strong enough if you mount them to metal.. i would do it straight to the frame if possible rather than to the bed only . the ones i have in my trailer back home are mounted by bolt to the frame and i strap down my dirtbikes tight with them. hopefully this helps coug..

Hmm do you think it'd be sturdy enough to mount on the inner part of the bed rail itself, which also has been Line-X'd....?

Do you mean the rolled edge just inside the bed? If so, possibly. I hauled dirt bikes all over the west with my '05 and its flexi-flyer bed without issue. I don't see why an earlier model couldn't do the same within reason.

The weight limits of this setup should hold a high lift. One issue is how to hold the high lift to the rails. Someone needs to fab a mount that has the ability to lock into these rails. And the second issue is the substrate that the rails are mounted to such as the bed rails. Bed floor or tailgate may be better? Having something that heavy bouncing around on a trail may fatigue the sheet metal over time. I don't know how "tight" the mounts are in the rail without constant tension from a strap pulling in some direction.
