I just got done installing my freshly rebuilt engine after a long 2 months:woot: and I was so happy that it was running that I was jumping up and down, hollering, the hole 9 yards until I looked under my truck to check for leaks and there was a bad oil leak so I scrambled to cut off my truck. I then took my drop light under my truck and found that my oil cooler was leaking I tightened it up because I thought maybe it was loose. Then I topped her back off with oil and cranked my truck and slid under there and sure enough it was coming form the oil cooler. So do you guys think it is the gasket that needs to be changed or do I need a new oil cooler all together

No but I just took off the oil cooler and I found that I didn't put a new gasket up there when I installed it

When you took the oil cooler off was there anything special you have to look out for?

My cooler has a very slight leak/ seepage of oil comming from the side that mounts to the engine or atleast it looks like it does. I've seen a diagram and I think there is a gasket back there. When and if I take it apart, can I just unbolt and place the new gasket in? Or is there more to it than meets the eye?

Also, should I expect to lose all the oil when I unbolt the cooler? I'm due for an oil change so I will probably do it at the same time.

    Thanks!

The only thing to it is the bolt in the center and an o-ring. It's pretty simple but be careful with the o-ring, make sure you get it lined up in the ridge before you tighten the bolt or you will pinch it. I would buy two just in case you mess one up. I belive they're only 2-3 bucks at the stealership. It can be a PITA tryin to get the o-ring to stay put but just take your time and you should be good. I've got the Toyota service manual on my computer, I can email you a copy of it if you need it
