Every time I reevaluate my insurance USAA is always the Cheapest By far So I stick with them because that have replaced my chipped windshield like 3 times already no questions asked and when My sister wrecked the truck they took care of it even though she wasn't on the policy and never raised my monthly premiums . I also think those scratches will buff out (Seriously).

Damn. That's frustrating. Thanks for explaining that. I guess what I'm not understanding is if some accidently scratches my car then its collision but if they did it on purpose then it would be a comprehensive claim?

For those little white marks I wouldn't have even called. It looks like a good scrubbing would have taken care of the problem.

I would agree but if its metal then... it needs to be at least sealed before rust sets in

Yea. I don't see any metal (picture quality isn't that good)

That's why I try to park away from people. The very next day I put my sliders on, I thought I would try to park next to people because knowing the sliders would protect my truck from other car doors. Anyways, I came out of a parking lot and saw a cart next to my truck.

I've been with USAA for over 20 years and have had nothing but good experiences with them. IMO the best insurance company out there. OP I hope your issue gets resolved in a timely manner.

Sounds like this is confusion on the OPs part about which coverages would apply...Not really a USAA issue.
I have USAA and had a major accident and had a few frustrating points like this as well, but talking with my claims rep she explained their side of it, and while it might not be the "best deal" for me...It's the way the companies are required to operate legally and as a matter of insurance business practices.
And they are hands down the best company my mom (29 years of insurance experience in 4 states) and I have ever dealt with when it comes to major claims.

USAA is a good company and I've been with them for I can't even remember how long. They've always been good to me, but I also don't bother them with anything minor like scratches. OP, your better off going to the manufacturer/dealer and getting a paint stick to fix the scratches. You'll understand the benefits of them if you ever really get into serious damage or even just a windshield. I don't know anything about insurance, but I think the potential cost of your premium going up over some minor bs like scratches isn't worth it.
But, fuck....I hate those idiots in parking lots especially around carts...hence sliders with kick out! bitches!

I have been in the Insurance industry for 13 years as an agent and 1.5 year as a claims adjuster and your scratch it is a collision loss. Its considered a collision with a moving vehicle, and yes moving shopping buggies are considered vehicles. That first claims rep you spoke to just gave you wrong information and they can't change the rules just because he misspoke. Your coverage is what it was at the time of the accident. Comp claims are vandalism, missiles (like a rock chip) theft or hitting a wild animal. Even if somebody opens their door into your car, that is considered collision. Your deductibles should be the same. Most people choose the same comp and collision deductibles. $500 is usually your best choice. I personally have $0 comp and $250 collision.

Relates don't generally go up for unoccupied, not at fault claims.

OP, After reading this, I'm surprised you carry such a different level deductible between your 2 policies.

I worked for USAA as an Insurance producer for auto and property and I gotta say, as shitty a deal as it is OP, the claims guys on here are correct in that it's going to be collision mostly because they have no way of knowing (with proof) that is was a cart, another car, or a sasquatch.

Paint stick followed by buffer followed by 6-pack and you should be good to go brohemius

I think the threshold for at-fault payout in TX is $500 for USAA meaning that if they end up paying over 500$ net (after deductible) to client over the span of a year then your premiums will be impacted. Only applies to collision though. This is why you should keep a reasonably high collision deductible, to avoid filing smaller claims like this to raise your rates, and also the higher your deductible, the cheaper your policy is.

I took God knows how many calls from pissed off members seeing rates go up on their policies at renewal and having no clue why and had to explain this to probably 75% of them.

Myself, my brother and sister, mom and dad have ALL had USAA. We have been members for some 40 years. Best rates, and best coverages. As mentioned, it is a difference between comprehensive and collision. Person above said it should have been a collision, but not all companies list a shopping cart as a collision. Actually most insurance companies list it under a "missile/projectile" item, because it is not considered an "operator" vehicle, like a car, motorcycle, bicycle, etc. We have dealt with shopping cart accidents before with USAA, and that is what was explained to us then.

USAA is one of the top rated insurance companies. They have been in business for a VERY long time, and have an excellent customer service rating. Plus they have total coverage for any situation. We have them as home insurance for my house in Florida. Anyone who lived there years back remembers when Frances, Gene, and Charlie did a 5 week number in central and eastern Florida. I called USAA after the first hit, and they said that it was obvious another was on it's way, so they deposited me a check for $250 right into my bank account to buy plastic and lumber to cover my slightly damaged roof. No questions asked. After the second, the third hurricane was already bearing down, and they again gave me $250 to recover. After the third one hit, we were asked to remove the covering, and photograph all of the damage. No adjuster even drove out. Within 12 hours of submitting the photos, they deposited $14,500 into our bank account. Even the local roofer who gave me an estimate said it would cost less than $10,000. Our neighbors were complaining for MONTHS because they couldn't get an adjuster out for their damaged homes. Some even had their insurance company file bankruptcy. For this AWESOME customer service, I will forever stay with USAA. They are the best.

It's crappy the first guy gave you conflicting info. I would make a formal complaint about his lack of knowledge. He needs more training or to be fired.

I've had USAA for 16 years, made small and large claims, and never had a major problem. I've debated going with another insurance company just to save cash but all those 'save 15% now' commercials hide the fact those rates are usually just an introductory price and the rate goes up after the first insurance period and/or the insurance company is crappy and won't pay when you do make a claim.

I have been with USAA for somewhere in the area of 15 plus years. My wife has been with them for somewhere round 30 years. I gotta say I have been really happy with USAA till recently. We had everything insured with USAA, house, 2 cars, savings account credit cards everything was USAA. anyway, about a year ago we bought a new (to us) house. USAA would not insure it cause it was built prior to 2002. Also, we have to carry insurance on our take home police cars. So at first they saud they would insure my patrol car and they did. Well my Dept. has surprise audits all the time and we need to show proof to the dept that we have insurance on the car. Well I didn't know it but USAA cancelled the rider on the patrol car w/o telling me. I had to scramble around to find insurance on the patrol car. I did find ins. for 500$ a year. So, I understand thats thier policy or whatever I just wish they would have told me. So, we found insurance on our house by the way and USAA came back and said they would cover the patrol car a few years later but I pay an extra 400$ a year. Good company and service is excellent but we are currently shopping around for all inclusive Ins. that may be a little cheaper. I do like USAA but man are they expensive!!

I'm not 100% sure about this but I think collision and comprehensive is always bundled together here in GA. One price for both and one set deductable for both coverages.

And as far as how each type is defined, that does sound purely arbitrary to me. How is a shopping cart a "ground vehicle" but a flying rock is not an "air vehicle"?
