ya I had a feeling it would be slower considering how small the hole is lol. and that's a good idea with the hose clamp even though I hear the locking mechanism is pretty good on these things

You're right, the mechanism is well-designed. While I doubt the valve can be opened accidentally, the clip is just added security.

I'm sure a zip tie or twisted wire would work just as well.

Skid plate was installed yesterday. Thankfully, only 40lbs...what a b*tch installing by myself.

Also, had this SSM (Seven Saturdays Motorsports) folding whip mount (leftover from the FJ) and found a spot for it...

    Closed position.

    I like the antenna mount.

Did you have to add the mounting tabs on the bumper for the skid? Turned out nice.

Thanks, Box Rocket! The mounting tabs were already there for the factory skid; the new skid swapped over perfectly.

After contemplating a matching (Konig Countersteer) spare for awhile, I finally decided to hit up Dustin again at FN Wheels.

I think it was meant to be. He happened to have a "cosmetically blemished" wheel available for 1/2 the price. Apparently, the finish/texture is not an exact match, but I can't tell the difference.

    IMG_6664_zps91b4665f_39342ee544671aeddaf0bdd9e5ecf881f7e6daf5.jpg

I also had Dustin mount/balance a tire for me - a used BFG T/A KO (285/75/16) that I traded a 6-pack of Hef for (with another local TW member).

A cable and weatherproof Master lock was added to deter theft.

What a damn awesome truck Darren!!!! that is one of the nicest rigs ive seen and the way u have it built.that is my next thing on the list, im wanting a matched spare but dont know anyone around here that i could get one for half price to save a little money. my buddy got me on of a factory tacoma wheel that ive painted blcak and gave him the money for a 285/75/16 duratrac used that him and me bought. now though with having a swing out made it would be nice to have a matching wheel on the back like u done. wish i could find deals like that. hahaha!!!!!

Thanks, Nathan! It helps being single (and no kids) :p

I got really lucky. You might want to post a WTB thread (on TW and other forums) for a matching tire - that's how I eventually found mine.

No problem man i could spot that rig any day. hahaha!!!

i'll have to do that then man. by the way where is the WTB thread on. it would be nice for me to find a Moto Metal 951 wheel to match the the others. but might have to wait for one to show up and a good deal on one too.

Since TW doesn't have a WTB section, I posted my thread here:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/wheels-tires-marketplace/

Craigslist and other Toyota/offroad forums were the other sites I posted/searched. Good luck, Nathan!

Sweet build, I just read thru the entire thread,
I have been thinking of a way to mount my spare in the bed or roof w/o losing cargo space. Your roof rack, couldn't you mount your spare tire on it? That would leave your entire bed free. Idk, maybe it can't be done. Thanks.

    Thanks, quetzal.

My roof rack was never intended to hold a spare. I don't want my truck to be anymore top heavy than necessary. And honestly, just too high for me to handle an 80lb+ spare comfortably. No more ruptured disks for me, if I can help it.

Just intended to be a utility rack + light bar. Thin-walled tubing was used on the roof rack section to save weight. Strong enough to hold 100lbs while truck is parked, but it's an unsupported cantilever (no support in front). I wouldn't drive around with that much weight up there flexing up and down, especially when I usually drive with the sun roof open.

Most of the time I don't need a full bed either, so the swing-up carrier is more than enough for my needs.

Thanks for getting back to me. You make some very valid points. I'll have to rethink the spare tire placement. Oh and I use my sunroof all the time too :D I just purchased a oem sunroof cover from a member here earlier this morning, I'm so excited about it.
