There's a guy about to put a group buy on for some bigger custom built alternators. Not sure if first gens can get in on this or not and it will probably cost you a lot more than $150, but these alternators will put down like 200 amps at idle when running hot even. They were saying a lot of companies list their cold ouput numbers to make them seem better. Kind of like how amplifier companies list peak output numbers instead of RMS numbers...

1 guy in there said he was running one in a honda civic that was pushing 4000 watts RMS to two 15" subs and when it was blasting the headlights wouldn't dim even at idle.

You could run your winch at idle for quite a while with very little worry about draining your battery.

im pretty sure that'll be 2nd gens only.

and according to test the CS144 is 110 at idle anyways from third party sources. If i can run all my lights, stereo and winch at the same time and have really little dimming when the winch is cranking enough to bend my bumper. I don't need to spend more then 130 bucks on an alternator for just 80-90 more amps and double the price.

unless i had a DC arc welder, which i have seen, for really serious Oh Shit moments. Then id want more. But i don't.

Again though, pretty sure thats 2nd gens..just like the CS144 won't fit for you guys.

Well he is buying from a shop that makes Alts for all kinds of cars, so I don't see why they couldn't build 1st gen ones right along with the 2nd gen ones.

If that's the case winches must not typically draw anywhere near what they list on their websites...

Here's what I found on the Warn M8000 though.

So just winching your line back in draws 80A + whatever the vehicle is drawing. Once you add some sort of load the draw goes up fast. No big deal for short winches and your dual battery setup but for a long haul it will drain your batteries quickly.

yea i knew they can pull up to 400 amps. Why my battery isolator is 500 amp conituous and 700 peak instead of the cute 200amps that all the fancy kits come with.

I have two batteries though and that helps a lot.

if your going to just do singles i can see where the dependency for running off an alternator would be key.

and nice. i guess he could build some for 1st gens then. Still..2-3x the cost..i have no need for it. rather spend that kinda money else where personally.

    Edit:

Looks like they make 2 for the 3.4L

holy shit pricey haha even with a GB i wouldn't want to spend that much. Not at this point in my life.

Yeah, I just can't justify spending that much money on an alt right now, but maybe Mike has the cash to do so. haha

A new 2nd gen TRD S/C for us is ~$2700+ $900 for a URD kit so not all that different from you guys when all is said and done.

Doesnt seem worth it to me. Yeah, the output is twice, 140-270 but the price is x4.5 the amount. I just paid $138 shipped to my door for a cs144.

I think for me, I don't need an alt the will push 4000 watts. If it handles 1000, I will be OK. :D

I also don't expect my winching system to have to handle continuous duty where it will drain the battery. If I needed that I might consider spending $655 instead of $138.
