Hawai'i in general is very superstitious with loads of ghost stories. I myself have never believed in ghost, until two separate incidents in high school...

    1) A friend took a pic of me standing in a cemetery and a headless horseman appeared right next to me (literally inches from me). It was white and gray and certainly fit the profile of a ghost. I wanted to keep the pic but my friend is very superstitious and deleted it while we sat at McDonalds creeped out.

    2) THIS SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME: Me and 4 friends drove my Camry halfway up Tantalus (a popular area for city view) to drink and hang out. We decided to go more up the mountain but my car wouldn't start. All of a sudden, car off, in park, and with the parking brake fully engaged, the car starts rolling. I take the wheel but it won't budge. Tantalus is a windy road with lots of hairpin turns, so I tell my friends we need to jump out because I can't turn the wheel and we'll go over the cliff. As we approach the first turn, the wheel goes on it's own and stays in the lane. It continued this way all the way down the mountain. Everyone's freaking out and the car pulls to the side and stops, then starts up on it's own! I dropped everyone home and slept in my friends van that night cause I was scared to go home.

I'm still a skeptic but I have no explanations for these incidents, especially the second one.

Also, if it crashed, how do you explain that to your insurance adjuster?

no shit, so I was camping off Tinkham right about here two and a half years ago.
    http://goo.gl/maps/RdKwF

Middle of the night I woke up with with very uncomfortable feeling there was someone or something in camp. When something brushed against the top of my dome tent, my Scottish terrier, who normally has no qualms about chasing MUCH larger creatures (raccoons, skunks, coyotes, deer, etc), suddenly woke up, burrowed under me and spent the rest of the night there cowering in fear. At sun up I climbed out of the tent with pup right behind me, tail between her legs. She spotted my buddy, 20 ft away, fully encased in his bivy sack, sprinted to him (nose to the ground and tail still between her legs) and tried desperately to dig him out. When he unzipped, he looked like he'd seen... well, bigfoot. He'd been awake most of the night, clutching his gun, afraid to open the sack after something circled him brushing against and stepping over him. Something big. He said he could feel its footsteps through the ground. The ground was disturbed around him and around my tent but no identifiable prints.

Could it have been a regular camp visitor? a raccoon? deer? coyote? no. it was big enough to reach up and over to touch the top/center of my 7'x7'x5' tent. It stuck around camp even with movement in the tent and my dog making noise. It apparently wasn't much phased by our presence.

Could it have been a bear? perhaps, but all the food and trash was 100ft away locked in the car. the only disturbed ground was around the tent and the bivy. not near the fire. not where we'd cooked or eaten. and touching the top/center of my tent....? bear would have had to be standing on hind legs and reaching/leaning over the tent to make contact there.

Can I say for sure what was or wasn't in camp that night? no. did I spend the next night with a hatchet and machete in the tent (and three friends with guns in their tents)? yes. do I camp out there (or any remote/secluded place) without a gun anymore? not a chance.

    To share a couple experiences:

It was about 2001 we were seniors, my buddy picked me up like 8pm or so and we were driving east on state rt.22 to go into town, the long stretch between the Wintersville st. rt.43 exit and the Steubenville Lover's Lane exit is where we saw a Triangle hovering above a hillside on the side of the highway, about 200 yards away I would guess and we were literally like "what the f*** is that", we pulled into the cop emergency turnaround to stop and look (while we likely had pot or something in the car, so why would we pull into a cop spot? and no we hadn't smoked yet). It had luminous circles on the underside, but they didn't emit light so to speak, it was weird to look at, and completely silent, definitely not a helicopter and I don't know of any silent hovering aircraft. There were also other cars on both sides of the highway just pulled over watching, and then in the blink of an eye it kind of moved and then took off and it was a speck of light on the horizon in seconds. I wanted to chase it but he said no way. We caught up to one of the cars while I frantically waved and signaled to the other driver but they didn't look over, maybe they were terrified. My buddy, who is now a Navy rescue diver is Hawaii, does not believe in anything superstitious or supernatural or religious but this was unreal, and we haven't really ever talked about it since and not much after that night, I have to assume it was either government testing or extraterrestrial, we watch the skies away from city lights alot and this is the only time I can confirm what I saw was unidentifiable.

To stay on the alien theme, my Mom swears that she has seen weird activity at the old neighbors house when they used to live there. She woke up one morning at 4am and looked out the bedroom window, and said there was an unmarked black car in their driveway, and there were men in jumpsuits with handheld devices like Geiger counters or something. As she watched, one man stood up and turned around and looked right at her, so she dropped below the windowsill and hid and when she looked out later they were gone. She also claims to have seen strange lights outside their window at odd hours of the night when they live far away from the city on a dead end street with no traffic.

My parents have always been into the outdoors, camping, hiking, stargazing, hunting, etc. Lately they had hiked around Piedmont lake and report seeing tracks that were bigger than a bear print or cat print and without claws. They also saw something tall and dark behind their woodpile one winter, which was clearly not a brown or black bear, which they have also seen in the area. Other times when they sneak through the woods, they sometimes smell a musty animal but not like any hog, bear, deer, or anything they have ever smelled. I guess one time they spooked something that was sleeping in the weeds and when they looked at the area it had bedded down it was a huge spot and stunk horribly of this odor. Alot of bigfoot sightings have been reported in Harrison county especially in the Salt Fork and Piedmont Lake regions. This is also the area that we deer hunt, Rt.800 off of state route 22 in an area called "egypt valley" near Sewelsville. In the 70's I guess alot of devil worshipping and tortures and murders happened in that area and my mom always gets worried when we hunt there because she knows what could be around (crazy fuckers looking to kill). A few years ago I was posted up waiting and I could hear a scream over the hillside. This wasn't like a funny or mad or sad scream, it literally sounded like someone was being dismembered alive, for several minutes, my hair stood on end and I was ready to shoot the first thing that didn't look right that popped out of the briars. That was a scary rush that I don't wish to experience again. My hunting partners on the adjacent hillsides also heard the horrifying scream and got the same bad feeling, that their lives were possibly in danger if whoever was out there saw them.

So with all this knowledge of crazy shit , my fearless dad decides to camp by himself for two weeks in the Piedmont region. (obviously armed) He's also the kind of guy that will go into pitch black woods without a flashlight and silently try to sneak up on unsuspecting animals. In this time he saw bobcats right next to his tent while pissing outside in the early morning, and he said nothing ever scared him except for humans. If he saw a car coming he would sneak into the woods and watch as some cars slowed or stopped to look at his camp. Humans are too smart and are unpredictable, he could tell what the bobcat was up to through body language, but there was no telling what some random car was doing, if it was locals looking to harass campers or just no one at all. While we have seen some spooky shit and have our memories of supernatural encounters, I have to agree that humans are the most dangerous animal, some crazy could be sitting in the woods waiting to kill hunters, which actually has been an increasing occurrence around these parts. I even spent the night in Mansfield Reformatory prison and while that scary place has alot of history and reported sightings, it doesn't come close to to being exposed to legitimate threats when no one else is around for miles. None of this has stopped us from hunting the area, we remain discreet and alert, hopefully we see them before they see us.

Thanks for reading, I will have to ask my parents to refresh me on some of the events they experienced when they were dating. The only one I remember now is that they were parked in the cemetery after closing hours because my dad worked there while in college. They were probly making out or something and my dad makes a call with his hands, if you fold your hands over and put your thumbs together then blow down it kind of sounds like an owl or a loon, and something answered him back with the same call from inside the little mausoleum that the priests are buried in on top of the hill. I think they took off after that. I then got the pleasure to work at the same cemetery for the same caretaker as my dad when I was in school. It was actually very comforting and never creepy to be around headstones and dead bodies, I think it kind of brought you down to reality that hey, its just a bunch of dead people whatever. I also got to pour the footer for my grandmothers headstone when she passed which I felt like was an honor. Funny thing, that was the last wheelbarrow of cement after all day of busting ass, and I spilled probly 200 pounds of wet cement when going to dump it, the guys gave me a hard time and said they could hear my grandma laughing at me, I had to laugh too. Sorry for reminiscing it just felt on topic.

I personaly beleive we are much older than we are told on this planet. it's easy, there is so many mystery's around the world on ancient structures both on land and under water that are dated way beyong what we think we originated...What if, just what if we were already in contact in the past with E.T's and it did end up like the columbus scenario...there is so many old writings and picturing from ancient civilization stating that...what i think we are and earth, is a big evolution experiment, i think we are being watch in our evolution or self destruction i should say. and what is rule #1 when you do this? well, you do not interfere directly with the world/race you are watching. No direct contact but you can still send hint's to help out...to me the whole beleiving or not starts with the crop circles...they are the proof. this video shows a few. i dare anybody to make one of them overnight as perfect as they are...

Cool thread OP. I don't know if I believe in these things or not. Mostly because I have never experienced or seen anything with my own eyes. But I do enjoy and get a kick out of all the subjects you brought up. Also I'm a skeptic, but I would never call anyone a liar, because anything in this crazy world is possible. Another thing is I think its selfish to believe we are the only living thing and all that open space. Question is are they smart enough to do anything or travel here. :notsure: . With all that said...

Here is my sort of ghost story.

I've told this story before, but its creepy to think about.

So 2 years ago on Halloween (no joke) day a neighbor of my parents was helping another neighbor carry stones onto his front porch. Well the neighbor helping suddenly dropped to the ground. So my parents next door neighbor came running to get my dad ( he is a retired firefighter and certified EMT). So he runs up and does CPR until the first responders and paramedics get there. My dad new it was probably a lost cause and medics did some work on him on way to hospital, but the pronounced him at the hospital. So later in the day my mom was in the basement its a finished basement and she has her computer down there. All of a sudden she smells a very strong odor of like funeral home flowers, and if you've been in a funeral home, you know what I mean. She said it lasted about 15 mins or so and went away. She told my dad (who.thought she was nuts) and asked neighbors if they happen to be cutting flowers or anything. Nothing of the sort. So maybe an hour or so later my dad goes down to the basement for something and the smell comes back. Now my dads sense of smell is not do great, years of fires and being a smoker etc.. he doesn't smell much. But he smelled the flower smell again. Said very strong and again lasted around 15 mins. He told my mom so she did a Google search and from what she read is that can be a sign of a spirit passing through the room. So we all assume that it was the man who just passed away that day, and was maybe trying to say thank you to my dad for trying his best to help. It's creepy being that it happened on Halloween of all days but also comforting in a way too. They have never before or again smelled that smell.

Great stories guys, keep them coming. Not much of a believer in things like this, but I'm always interested in hearing the stories people tell on TV or in person. The few unusual things I have seen/witnessed I always tend to justify them (lack of sleep, dreaming, alcohol....).

I am a very scientific/engineer type of person, but I am always open to the unknown. I am skeptical of most things until they can be measured/proven, but I did see one thing once that I am puzzled by.

Back when living in TN, I came out of my apartment one night in the summer and there was a thunderstorm on the horizon....I could see the edge of the cloud being illuminated by the could-to-cloud lightning. A few seconds later while looking at it, I saw a ball of light inside the cloud that moved horizontally in a slightly wavy line through the cloud for about 5 seconds. It was pretty slow and the light from it was being diffused by the cloud, so I could tell it was actually inside the cloud. The light seemed to be about 2 feet in diameter (by my estimate) and moved maybe 30 yards?

To this day I have no clue wtf that was. It almost seemed natural like a bird flying...and I had heard the term "ball lightning" before, but after I googled videos of ball lightning I realized that ball lightning normally flashes in one place and does not glow like a light bulb and move slowly across the sky. God knows what it was, but there was definitely some weird phenomena there that night. Nothing scary, no feeling of aliens, but I was kinda surprised to see it.

I won't express my opinions of some subjects but here are my stories:

    - As a child I heard someone walking up and down the stairs in our split-level home. I look down the stairs and see nothing there, yet the stairs still creaked, in order, down and up again towards me. I told my Dad about it years later and he had heard someone running on those stairs also. He assumed it was us kids and went to yell at us, finding nobody there.

    - Iraq 2006 - 2007. I felt the presence of evil, Satan, or whatever you want to call it, thriving there. I won't bother with details, I just know it was there.

I can only imagine bro. There are true faces of evil among us and it is that animal instinct in all of us that can see it subliminally in the existence of others. You just sense it.

Yep. Another similar thread. Hence why I said I've told it before. :D It's really my one and only ghost like story.

Iraq is home to one of the oldest civilizations on our world. I'm intrigued to hear some stories of the unexplained from people who have been there. The presence of spiritual creatures that live among mortal men play a huge part in Islam and the Koran. It is generally accepted in that region that humans live in co-existence with spirits, or as they call them, Jinn.

When we go backpacking up in the forests here and near the emerald triangle, we will always see alot of trash suddenly appearing on the trail. Im not kidding when I say we find old tortilla packaging, bottles of hotsauce and beercans. Hikers know to pack out what you pack in, and these douches just drop trash wherever they are. Also, if you are near streams or rivers, look for irrigation lines or hoses going away from them. We will see a lot of manmade dams that will divert a stream off the natural one. If you see this shit, get the hell out.
