Are camburg CO's on par with Icon and king?

I know the burg Co's are just SAW's. for those of you that have/had them. Are they on par ride and quality wise with icon and King? Honestly I just want red. And I don't need resi. Also are the burgs the same travel as the extended travel icons?

 

Burg's are legit man......I believe they're already extended travel. Not sure how aggressive they're valved if you DD a lot but they're always re-valvable.

 

I thought they were not extended travel? I'm looking for a recent thread I saw.

Camburgs are a rebadged SAW so yes they are definitely a good setup. I'm partial to ICON's for 2.5 body coilovers though but thats just me.

I believe they are standard travel since there is not a requirement to change the UCA's

10.5" of travel is deff extended travel. They only make a 2.5" coilover now are I'm sure they make them in house instead of rebranding SAW's? They're a full on race company at this point......ever check out their race videos? SICK

 

Anyone ridden in a truck with each type. Ie one with burgs one with icon one with king?

 

Our Coilovers are not built in house. Sway Away still makes them for us. The diff is that they are not a standard 8" coilover, they are built specifically to work with our arms as where a King shock would be too big of a shock and you would be bottoming the shock out too soon.

on paper they can all be an 8" travel shock, but collapsed and extended lengths vary. Our coilovers are set up to be ran with our arms so that is really where you will see travel gains.

If you insist on running a king or an icon, we can provide you with the right shock specs and you can have either company build you the shock to those specs.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but just for clarification when Carlos is referring to "his arms and the length of others shocks not being correct for his arms", he is referring to his long travel kit, not a upper arm kit.
Sway-a-way/Camburg use a over cap top cap which makes the collapsed length shorter than other brands.

 

Their seems to be some confusion in here so I will clear everything up .....

1) Camburg bolt-in coilovers are manufactured by Sway-Away to our specs. They are an extended travel version designed to work specifically with our upper arms to maximize wheel travel. They are on par with every high end shock out there, after all we all use Eibach coils, billet aluminum and cad plated shock cylinders. Comes down to price, color, valving, wheel travel, etc.

2) What Carlos explained has to do with 8" coilovers for long-travel kits, not bolt-in coilovers. All bolt-in coilovers are specific for the truck, some aren't extended travel for uniball upper arms though.

Awesome people are starting to chime in! So questions. To the camburg reps. What materials are the shocks? Can you list what metal is used for what? Ie shaft, body, valves. I know icon posted there materials. But can't find where. Also what's the Valving in comparison to icon and king? In between? Softer then both? Firmer then both? Springs rate is 650 correct? Question to Micah. Can dsm rebuild and re valve the burgs?

 

Yes we can.

 

Our Camburg coilovers for the Tacoma use an Eibach 13" x 650/lb coil, for guys that run heavier winch bumpers, etc I suggest using our FJ coilovers since they use a 14" x 700/lb coil and valved slightly different. This offers better control and you don't need to preload the coils as much with the added weight.

Shock shafts are Nitro-steel like Sway-Away and Icon, no plating to flake off, etc.

Shock cylinders are DOM tubing that is then honed to exact specs and tolerances. The outside is silver cad plated like everyone else.

We use hi-temp viton shock seals, which is an available option for some other companies shocks.

Aluminum parts are machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum (not cast) that is then type 2 anodized red for the exterior parts.

We valve our shocks for a plush all around ride for both street and off-road use, not just one or the other.

I have personally ridden in trucks with everyone's coilovers and I have yet to find one that rides better than ours in my opinion. Camburg, FOX, Icon, King are all great shocks .... different strokes for different folks.

Awesome respones! +1 for burg. So a few more question Scott. My truck is a DD. will have a front skid. And possibly down the line a hybrid bumper and maybe a winch. 95% of the miles I drive are on pavement. But i would love to improve that ride. That pothole on my drive to work they jars my truck. I want it to feel like a small bump. Those nuisance speed bumps. Turn into "what speed bumps". And for the 5% my truck is on dirt I want that 10 miles of rough rutted dirt road to my fishing spot to turn into a nice scenic drive. I want that difficult trail that has kept me from exploring new spots to turn into a yellow brick road to adventure. In essence. I want improved on road ride. As well as better handling and damping for mild offroading. Do you feel the camburgs paired with your upper control arms fit those needs? Sure I could just go with icon or king. But to be honest I feel from the research I've been doing that camburgs don't get the respect and recommendation they deserve. And honestly... I really want red

Pick a color dude.....if you really want red, Burg's are the way to go. All the big shocks are going to give you what you described.

 

That answers my question. Which in essence is. Our burgs comparable to icon and kings. Or comparable to toytec and OME

op the saw/camburg coilovers are totally on par with icon or king co's. I've ran them for a few years and they held up really well and were valved nice, and only had to rebuild them once. I only switched to king co's because they had a resi, and the burgs needed more work/parts to run a resi. the burgs are also good price point at around 1050 while most co's with resi will run more
