    Just like we do now.
We've exported more than we've imported for decades.

Our oil is not as clean and is more difficult to refine. It is more cost-effective to sell our shit on the open market and import the good stuff.

We have the same issues here in Alberta Oil Sands. It's under a lot of earth and apparently is a pain in the ass to get. We pay the cheapest gas in the country here in Alberta. From what I know there is no refineries here in the West, they're all out of the Eastern part of Canada. Our Province is pushing for two pipelines to go through, one through the US as I am sure you know. As far as some people are concerned we have dirty oil. I just think, if it's that dirty then why aren't you thinking of other means to gas your car, heat your house etc. A lot of people don't realize how many things are made from oil.

I would not go over 10k without having UOA done.... and at $25 for the UOA, it's not worth it.

Toyota allows for 10k intervals on some vehicles with synthetic, but they still require 5k on the 2.7 Tacoma even though it gets synthetic from the factory.

The poster is correct in that not all "synthetics" are PAO based. Many are blends now that they can legally say it on the bottle and advertisements. To be sure, use only tier 1V and higher. Different oil compositions can be found over at bobistheoilguy as well as folks that really know their oils. As for extended drain intervals, some better oils may last 15-25,000 but most filters will not. I recommend changing your filters every 5-8,000 depending on the quality of the filter.. Just my opinion...

When I owned a VW that would run full synthetic the manual said that you were able to go 15,000 km's on a oil change. I would change it at 8,000. 15,000 Is way too long to go for one oil change in my opinion. Just because the oil says you can go that long without a oil change, I wouldn't do. I'd do what the manufacture says because they know what's best for their vehicles.

It's not new, it's not Mexico
At 45000 miles I had used all my Toyota Care & Landcar services. I decided to switch to Mobile One 0W-20 with a Toyota filter & drain plug gasket. My son did all the work for me. I'm going to go 10000 miles with a filter change at 5000. I know the owners manual says change at 5000, but we all know oil can go longer & the filter is the weak link.

It all depends on the volume.

Typical gasoline engines? Ya... 8-10k is the most I'd be comfortable with without running UOA (and on a 6-quart engine, it's not worth it).

Other engines? My Duramax ran 2 gallons. The oil life monitor would recommend changes anywhere from 8-13k.
My buddy's boat? 13 GALLONS per engine.
Normally, you want to change every 150 hours, but due to the larger capacity, his Cats go 250 hours.

And on that, a used oil analysis at less than $35 for TBN and everything would absolutely be worth it when an oil change costs $312 for just the oil, plus four filters at $40 each.

Same goes for OTR trucks. A quality synthetic MIGHT go 60,000 miles.

Switched to Mobil at 10,000 miles. Look forward to using it for a long time! The dealer charged me $22, the difference between dino and synthetic

    Ya, haha

I'm coming up to my next interval. Not sure what I'm going to switch to. I had been bringing it to my dealer because of my Toyota Care but it's up... I need to order some filters and oil.

What's the best weight in synthetic for Northern NY? Average temps are teens winter and 70's summer.

Toyota recommends 5w30 for all 2nd Gen V6.
They briefly moved to the Xw20, but went back to the 5w30 on a number of vehicles including the Yaris.
Synthetic's better cold flow performance will help offset some of the drawbacks of the heavier weight 5w30, but in a nutshell, 5w is 5w on cold starts, whether it's a 5w20 or 5w30.

2.7, recommended oil is 0w20 or 5w20... check your oil cap.
