No offense to homer because his grilles are awesome...I would know..I had a 1125 dollar grille on my truck for 10 minutes  but the grillcraft is basically a thin lip satoshi...if you just want a mesh grille go with the grillcraft..im waiting on the diy because you can pick the mesh

    Thanks Matt. :D

the grillcraft inserts go for about $180 - $200 and from the ones I have seen are actually closer to a "flush" mounted look than a satoshi. You still have to cut out the center though in order for it to work from what I can tell.

The kit I'm developing will require similar cutting but as you can see from the pic allow for the "lip" to be exposed.

I also intend to offer this as a less expensive option than theirs.

Haters be haters. Supply and demand. Everything is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. This grille is worth exactly what was paid for it. With supply it lowers demand. No reason that this is worth a single cent less than was paid for it. It may in fact open a whole new subculture of seller if you will. I for one applaud you Craig for a job well done and to sticking to your own up-bringing / morals as you had been offered cash. There is only one Homertaco and you pay for just that. So I imagine the DIY will involve some 'detailed' cutting and sanding unlike grillcraft? Which I don't see being a problem.

I assume no bondo/fiberglass-mesh work is involved for the DIY?

Any idea if we'd have to powder coat it ourselves?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'd rather have a thin-lip than a grillcraft especially if they will be cheaper, and most importantly if designed by you!

Congrats on the eBay sell!! Wow!

This. and i like to idea of supporting a member. Have you also considered bending and selling the mesh used in your grill for those of us adventures types they can put the time and glass work in to make a deeper grill? If so i may just take some of the mesh also. I like the deep bend on the sides allowing for a deeper lip.

Thank you for the kind words and enthusiasm. :D
I have, however here is the issue: When I offer any DIY product I like to give the purchaser as much information as possible for a successful install. With what you are asking I would essentially just be selling a bent piece of aluminum and letting you go along on your own.
I'm not 100% comfortable doing that. I hate the thought of setting someone up for failure. :(
For the DIY mesh I currently sell there are plenty of "how to" write ups on making a satoshi so there's no issue.
This is also the scenario which made me stay away from DIY raptor mesh for so long. Until I realized folks were just installing in on the back without cutting the grills to fit - not how I do it, but they are happy so who am I to argue?:notsure:

The other issue is that the 2012 style is a few inches longer than the 05-11 pieces. That means More material and less grills out of a sheet... I think you know where I'm going with this. ;)

Bottom line - I'm working on a way to set you 2012 & up guys up with SOMETHING you can use that is a GOOD product, a QUALITY product, and something that will not cost you an arm & a leg like our "friends" over at ridgid want...

    Thank you,
    ~ Craig

I realize you are not taking orders for these yet, and may never will, but the day you do, I will be one of the most excited 2nd gen owners on TW.

For those of you that don't know or haven't been around Craig on TW for long, he's a great dude. I've never seen him get emotional or butthurt even in the off-topic threads. I've been on here for years and he's always stood out as one of the good, knowledgeable, here-to-help dudes. The fact that he spends so much time on here trying to help others should motive the rest of the TW members to be more like him.

I never paint over the chrome - just not my process. Jim (river rat 69) has a proven process for doing so though...

I love the look of the Satoshi grills and can't wait to put one on my truck when it shows up (just ordered). Looking forward to hearing more about this project from you HT and the fact that there's no bondo/body work has me even more intrigued.

I cant wait for the diy kit on the satoshi grills on the 2nd gen. Looked at the grill crafts but really like the one you sold on ebay. Love that grill but way out of my budget.
You do some awesome work sir

Let me be clear: There will never be a "made-to-order" build thread for the 2012 and up grill like I have for the 05-11.

I will make additional 2012 and up grills but they will be offered up as the original prototype was: via eBay auction.

I am working on a DIY mesh kit for the 2012 & up application. I have a working prototype. I've sourced another 2012 grill to use for a "how-to" video/thread in order to illustrate the process of fabrication and installation of the kit.
Sure, I could throw together a bunch of mesh shaped properly for the application, but I'd be a pretty lousy manufacturer if I did not show the customer how to properly install the product.
I was not thinking of this when I made the DIY prototype mesh...

All I want is the mesh so I can do it myself. I'm fine with that if I gotta wait for a how to vid to go with it on how to install it. I've pm'ed you on buying just a diy mesh for the 12+
