That's common to all framed vehicles.

The frames are assembled upside down until they are joined to the powertrain, so any stickers or chalk/crayon writing on the frame components will be upside down.

    this and that...
i pve had accesscab configurations (xrunner and trd OR) in 08 and 13. and the only thing i liked about the 08 over the 13 was that the older one had the fold down flat seats. that was a godsend compared to the jump seats that are back there now.

That is REALLY interesting about the Orkin squat. Do you happen to have any pictures?

I'm not sure you are aware, but Orkin leases/buys 7k vehicles a year. That is a pretty big chunk going to one business and was a big boon to Tacoma sales. IF the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon are better fleet trucks, Toyota could lose a big chunk of Tacoma sales - say 10 percent or more.

    Very interesting.

And I think we will see more of what you are saying going forward. The trucks will continue to use more composite, have a smoother ride, be more refined and see continual improvements in MPG.

I defiantly feel like there is a lot of things they slacked on. My 08' was pretty solid when I bought it at 90k. No complaints at all.. Bought my 13' and this thing clunks, rattles, and pops at any sign of flex. Had to go through this thing tightening bolts and greasing brake pads. Not to mention every grease fitting was basically dry on the drive shafts. I mean come on..Still love it to death but, 30k spent on a new rig and you would think I wouldnt have to do that.. I still wouldnt drive anything else though!

I think the next tacoma will probably have a great engine. They've had pressure put on them by full size trucks by Ford, GM, and Dodge-- They all have newer v6's that put out 300+ hp and get close to 25 MPG highway. I'd say next gen Tacoma will be around those numbers with probably better MPG due to less weight. Toyota will have to make some moves sooner than later. Just my obvservations

Do you really wonder why? Trucks got a lot more powerful and they got heavier at the same time. So MPG's probably have held close to even.

Let's hope, because Toyota is lagging on the last 3 items.
Granted, it's a truck and designed to work... but even with the refinements, my '08 still has a LOT in common with my '94.

    My '94 (5 lug) with the 22RE that couldn't maintain 70 going up a grade got 18.
My '08 5-lug has a 2.7 that will accelerate from 50 to 80 climbing the same grade gets 24.

I have no pics. Unfortunate. If I can get one I'll shoot it to you.

I don't know if Orkin could move to another vehicle or not, at least not right away, they've got a shitload of those trucks on their hands at the moment. But if I were their vehicle buyer I'd be looking at new vehicles that weren't Toyotas ASAP. Problem is, I don't see GM being the gamechanger. GM has a decades-long reputation that they can't overcome...my first car was a GM product and that will be my last GM product. How bad was it? Well hell, I've ever bought Ford twice.

If Nissan would pull its head out of its ass - unlikely given some recent comments I've seen from them regarding what they think competes with the FRS - they could restart a singlecab assembly line and walk away with every fleet sale in the United States.

My city public works department moved to the Tacoma from the Colorado a couple of years ago.
Will they go back with GM's new midsize truck next year? Dunno yet.
The rest of the truck fleet is GM... minivan to C7500, but the pool car fleet is a mixture of Prius, NGV Civic, and we have a couple of hydrogen cars... pretty sure they are Toyota.
We also had a hydrogen bus... it was used for a couple of months and parked.

    Texas, or Tijuana?

Tijuana makes all of the beds, but the production line only makes DC.
They don't make all of the DCs, but they make a good portion of them.
Look for "TMMX" on your door sticker.
    My '08 came from NUMMI.

Drove a 2003 access cab for 9 years before trading it in on a wrangler. It was a great truck and I regret doing that. No issues and it felt more like a truck than my 2014 sport.

The sport drives like a car and the engine sounds high pitched but its a nicer truck in features and interior. Hope it holds up like that 03.

I drove a couple access cab Tacomas when I was shopping for my new used truck last year. I never noticed any noises or rattles. The Tacomas were so much nicer than my POS Ranger. It wasn't until I tried out a double-cab Tacoma that I realized the access cabs had more noise and rattles. I ended up getting the double-cab because it had the lowest miles and the best price out the trucks I looked at. If I never drove a double-cab I would've been 100% happy with an access cab. The moral of the story is that you should go for a ride in a friend's Ford Exploder or Ranger and it will make you happy with your Toyota again.

couldnt agree more. The wrangler rattle I had in the jeep makes any noise my new taco make insignificant.

I had a coworker that had an 03 crew cab Silverado 2500 with a Duramax. He put on an aftermarket intake, chipped it and had 4-inch exhaust straight-piped from the turbo back with no muffler. That truck would slam your head against the headrest when he floored it. He commuted in it and got about 17-18 freeway mpg. He thought his mileage was too crappy and he was paying too much in fuel every month. He traded it in on a 08 Jeep Wrangler 4-banger automatic. He immediately lifted it and put 33" tires on it. It was gutless as phuck and got 12 mpg. What a dumb-ass!
