Bought a Tacoma with a short bed and didn't even think about whether my 12 ft jon boat would fit in it. I would just put the boat in myself and see but it is not close to my house at the moment. Anyone have experience with this?

I have zero issues with my 12 kayak in my bed. With the tailgate down, it doesn't stick out far at all. Now the 16ft yak is a little ridiculous in the bed. But 12ft is fine. As of recent, I got a truck bed extender (got it very cheap). It works great. Mounts directly to the hitch receiver and your good to go.

Anyway, I would play with it to see how it fits before I go invest in a trailer. Take some pics to see how good or bad it is.

X2 ^ on the kayak in a short bed. I toss mine in diagonally with the tailgate down and it's easily carried.

What they said, 12ft is no problem. Carried a good bit of 4x6x12 poles and they don't stick out too bad. Just make sure your boat is tied down sufficiently.
