Close to home! I'm there real often. BTW - it's Custer State Park. Nice that it wasn't shut down with the national parks. One of the best state parks around!

    Yesterday.

    From today.

I got a Mud River backseat pet protector and finally took the monster out today.

The scary part was, I opened the back window for him and he crawled out and was on top over the BakFlip. I was doing about 55 when I noticed. I almost hit the brakes! I gingerly slowed down and called him back inside and closed it. I'm going to have to limit how much it can open.

About the center of the horizon there is a light colored rock formation. It's Mount Rushmore from about 14 miles out. I search for places in the Hills that I can see it from far off.

I understand you need a permit to travel that route from the ranger station- beyond that, is it a difficult run? Looking to get out that way soon. Thanks. BTW your pics are gorgeous!

    Thanks!

You can get your permit from the Ojai Ranger Station. Make sure to call on a weekday. The permit is good for up to three days and you can camp overnight up there. They may cancel the permits due to rain or snow... 4wd is required to be used on the trail. Seems like a lot of BS but when you get there you can see why. 2wd could make it, but you would just tear it up. The trail also gets a bit steep, so 4 low is nice to have when going back down. It's no big deal, my stock 4X4 TRD Sport with the crappy stock Bridgestones had no problem. As long as the trail is dry.
