First off I know this forum will be a little biased considering its TW but bare with me....Anyways, yesterday I found a sweet deal on an 06 colorado with the z71 kit, and some nice aftermarket upgrades and I decided to test drive it, the crew cab was pretty big and comfy and it seemed to drive and handle pretty well and for $8500 it wasnt a bad deal, I'm nuts for tacomas though, the price tag is the killer though, and this will be my first truck anyways so the price is an issue, Would any of you recommend going out of my own price range and buying a tacoma? My theory is that i might as well spend the extra $$$ to get an all around better looking and way more reliable truck, any ideas?

Stay within your budget and buy the best truck you can find for the money. Sounds like a good price for the Colorado, depending on options & mileage.

    Stupid I phone.

Like I was saying. Had 04 Colorado for five years and loved it. 4x2, 4 banger, manual, LSD, extended cab with great power and gas mileage. The thing only was stuck twice an I took it off road more than my Tacoma 4x4. Loved that truck. Main reason why I chose a Taco was money for like options the Colly was two grand more because it has to come with leather. I do miss that truck but am currently in love with the Taco.

I'm almost dead positive I can say tacos are more reliable than colorados as a fact, but the extra $$$ money is a longshot, then again spending the extra money might save money for repairs the colorado might cause down the road

One of my tacomas has 225k on it. I've only ever replaced minor maintenane parts since I got it at 150. Everything I took off was a factory part too.

The colorado is quite possibly THE worst truck ever made. I want to say they're still torsion bar up front, underpowered, unreliable, and generally awful.

Get a nice 1st gen Tacoma for around 8k, you'll thank me later.

Edit: I'm at 194k miles now, still feels like a new truck.

Oh and the Colorado has that 5 cylinder engine. The power of a 4 cylinder with 6 cylinder fuel economy! :D

I'd pick the look of a first gen Tacoma over the look of the underside / underhood of the Colorado, the inside of the bus / the decor in the parts store / the look of an empty wallet from paying for repairs.:)
