yeah... the colorado im pretty sure topped JD powers 10 WORST cars list for multiple years....

now i know its not the same truck... but

our 2001 Chevy 2500HD 6.0L DCSB 4x4 has been problems since just after the 36k mi warrenty... in short... fuel pump replace, tcase rebuild, transmission rebuilt, many various sensors replaced, radiator replaced, all rear drive shaft u joints, center carrier, front pitman/idler/idler assembly replaced, water pump, alternator, all serpentine idler pulleys, front hubs.... all under 150k miles... just to name a few of the big fixes....

our 2004 Tacoma prerunner... 192k miles... and umm.... oil changes and greasing driveline (and timing belt / water pump which is normal maintenance for the 3.4L)... thats it standard maintenance.

damn I want a tacoma so bad, my parents will only spend so much but I can just tell them it's worth to spend more to avoid repair costs with American trucks

If they're being that generous, why don't you pay the difference to a tacoma yourself?

In that case you can't be a toyota dude without owning an early solid axle truck. Trust me on this, you will not regret owning one and will compare every rig you own to it. This one needs some work, but it will build character fixing it, and your folks will be more than happy to save some of their cash.

lets keep adding to the list

Moms 07 4 runner.... 87k miles... zero issues

dads 89 yota pickup (truck he had before the 04 tacoma)... 250k miles no issues only sold it to get something newer with airbags... that lil 89 ran like a top when he sold it... still running this day with 400k miles on its original motor and trany.

Moms 99 suburban 5.7l v8, 2 full sets of injectors under warranty (thank god), transfer case rebuild, alternator, transfer case dash switches, and headgasket started to go at 104k... went to trade it in to the SAME CHEVY dealer we bought it from... dealer said... oh we dont take american made vehicle trade ins with over 100k

Lets just put it this way... i went though a month and a half of seriously pursuing buying a used tacoma, doing all the math at each step. Tacoma's price degrade perfectly linear... that is... if its half used ~10-12years or 150-180k miles... expect to pay right around half. The price degradation per year is pretty much the same between new and used so long as you keep the new one for a couple of years.... this is why i just said efff it and bought a new one, one that fit my qualifications to a T, is brand new, nothing needing replacing just going to work...

Unfortunately you just really dont get a price break for buying used... and its VERY hard to find a clean used one as people just dont sell them. The ones that are for sale usually are a weird config, dark color, or beat.

But without an income its hard to justify spending more for new.... dont know what schooling you are going through, but i managed to hold down an 18 unit per semester load in my Information Technology degree (aint no pansy ass psych/biology major) while working 25-30 hrs a week... it was hell... but well worth it... end of the 3 years at my university i was able to afford the brand new truck outright.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
I had a 04 colorado. I really liked the look of it and the I-5 had good power. Everything else sucked. When I got rid of it at 18000 miles, it had been through multiple steering racks, 1 set of front springs, 4x reflashing the BCM, 2x replacing BCM, and the body sheetmetal was really thin (easily dinged).

I get the same gas milage and better power from the Taco V6 now.

    It did look good though...
