thinking about simplifying things and just rerouting the blinker wires to the corner, getting an amber bulb for the corners, and running power to the bar from the corner wires........

at least until I get confidant enough to wire to a relay and switch

Can a ham radio talk with a cb radio? Also don't you have to take some test to be licensed to get a ham radio? I think Joe is working on that right now.

I have an ICOM V-8000. 75W, and you can mod them super easy to TX RX on race freq's. Just remove one diode. The biggest benefit over CB is audio clarity. Your voice comes across as clear as FM radio...the range is cool too though. In the desert on offroad runs, we get strung out over 20 miles (dust), and it's still crystal clear. 30 miles is no problem in most terrain. Another cool thing is that you can use it to listen to weather radio when you get up in the morning at camp...

No. Mine will tx/rx on 136-174Mhz (like FM radio, but a little higher in the spectrum).

Yea you have to be licensed. There a 3 levels for it. But its pretty easy to get basic level to broadcast.

Not sure if they work like a CB or cellphone..

If you do get your ham, then you will be able to use their ham repeaters. There is a really good network on the west coast. Better than cell coverage for sure. You might not be able to talk directly to me in PDT, but you can have a ham call my cell and come rescue you...

Yeah, just key the mic and talk directly to me on my radio. I don't have an amateur license, so I avoid their freq's. I am a radio tech for the National Weather Service and refuse to get one, I'm a professional, why do I need an amateur license? lol.

Here is a list of race freq's-

Yeah you can talk ham to ham I was asking if you can talk ham to cb. He said no. So for now I don't see the point in getting one since no one else in the group has one so you will have to run both. Unless you want to be the guy in the grouo who can call out in case of an emergency or something.

Ham is probably just as good, maybe better, but I think it would be aawesome to get your hands on a bunch of military radios. Once we get them set and running they work awesome! The catch is getting them set. But for our uses we would just use single channel plain text which is cake to setup. No need to code our messages. haha

I don't usually go in a group, so for me it makes no sense to have a CB. Out here, the Sheriff uses FM, and I know his freq, so if I get in trouble and end up upside down somewhere bleeding, I know I can grab my mic and get help.

    haha yea can't say i blame you..haha

so those are the freq's that you could monitor during races and here stuff? Awesome. Or can use pretty much when there is no race..like..in the middle of Wy..haha

    Yep.

Eventually someone else will get one. I know Mike has shown interest. If no else else does thats fine.

What if I told you it IS a military radio? Well, some freq's anyway.

    138.45000 AirForce SAR

    138.75000 AirForce SAR

    126.20000 Military repeater...

I have a handheld. If I go on a group run I pass it to the least retarded person in the group, usually the tailgunner.
