Feel bad for the guy, hope he's able to get the truck out of there.

Pretty scary to be in that situation, been there and done that and not fun at all.

Wish I had seen this earlier. I'm part of SAR for Thurston County (Washington), I would have told you guys to keep him with his truck and a known coordinate. Trying to find a person in a vehicle is incredibly easy vs. finding JUST a person.
Also, the more you wander, the greater the search area gets... and we have to start guessing where you went.
My buddy was on a search around here where they found the truck... and about 5 hours later found the body 2000 feet away :(

Hoping for the best outcome and he's safe

I have no doubt Shane is well prepared for his trek away from the truck. I know exactly which route he is taking, and where his destination is in regards to his truck. Luckily, the area is a valley between the Sierras and the Panamint range, so finding him shouldn't be all that difficult.

I just hope those other 4x4 guys find him on his way down. Knowing Shane, he will stick to the road to increase his chances of them spotting him.

Yeah Matt tell him to stay put. People who leave their vehicle die, people who stay get rescued. Anything can happen sprained ankle etc. I was a SAR volunteer when I lived in Idyllwild.

    UPDATE:

Jumping didn't get it started, sounds like internal failure somewhere from hydro-lock.

Two offroaders are escorting him down the trail now to the main road where a tow truck can get to him.

Good ending, I would like to hear how he righted the truck back onto its wheels by his self.
    Good lesson to learn.

Me too...looks like he looped the winch cable around a rock or something...pretty damn genius for one guy to do all by himself.

Sucks about the possibly fatal engine damage, but at least he's moving down the road with some help! Good luck with the continued rescue and awesome job to the two that went out to get him!

Glad to see he Maguiverd his way out. How did he flop on his side right there? Pics only show me that it fell over right there.
