Yeah, excellent recovery of the truck!! Would love to see pics of the damaged side. Also wonder if those side airbags helped or hurt, as many of us turn them off when offroading. Probably came in handy here....

sub'd for more pics. good thinking on getting himself upright.

as for him going solo, no one knows his abilities better than himself. he obviously had enough sense to get himself upright again and bring supplies so I'd imagine his abilities are up there. unlucky he couldn't get it started but if he had, no one would have known he had issues other than the damaged truck.

Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.
Seems there are a few different threads, this being the most active?
    Anyway.
I'm safely in Ridgecrest now, thanks to two guys from PanamintValley.com driving two hours to meet me. A Jeep helped me down the 4x4 part, while a Tacoma towed me to Ridgecrest, which is where I am currently.
I am now trying to find the cheapest way to get home, seeing as how I already can't afford the repairs. Anyone with a flatbed trailer (I'll pay the U-Haul rental) willing to come meet me and tow me home? <--serious question
I haven't perused all five pages of this thread, but to answer a few questions:
I flipped it because I took a turn wrong, and then didn't bump the gas when I felt it going over. Coulda shoulda woulda, y'know?
The trail I was on is absolutely positively off-limits to 2wd, and anything without at least a 3" lift would be scraping important parts off.
I righted myself with winching technique. Tree strap around my roof, tied to a winch extension strap looped around a giant rock directly uphill from me with the other end tied to a snatch block, and the winch cable run through the snatch block to the tree strap. So the tree strap that was the anchor point for my roof was getting a double pull. Once up, I put it in neutral and gently eased off the parking brake, allowing it to roll back off the embankment so it didn't come back down again. Actually not all that hard to do. Simply mechanics.

Find someone with AAA platinum - they can get you home. Where do you live? I've done it for someone that needed it near the AZ/CA/Mex border to get home to LA. Did you discon the batt and press on the brake, wait 10 secs or so and then restart? I would think a computer reset may be all that you need.

You did not hydrolock that. In order to fill the combustion chambers with oil, you would have had to had broken rings and 150k to a million miles on that truck. Airbag deployment could cause the computer to be reset.

First things first: I'd say the fastest way home would be hitching a ride and towing later. You can try leaving your truck somewhere you feel secure leaving it and then have someone come pick you up or something.

My thoughts on the recover: Good for you for keeping your head! Did the tree strap around the rock slide around the rock as you pulled? From the pictures it looks like that's what would happen. That's the only thing I would have tried to change if I could, to prevent abrasive damage and potential failure of the tree strap. Regardless, it worked, and that's awesome!
I'm glad you're safe and your truck is down the hill.

    This. You nailed it 100%.
I prefer absolute solitude as often as I can get it. With this in mind, I prepare for just about any contingency, so that I can get myself back without having to rely on others (who may not be there). Being solo is not as terrifying or as stupid as most make it out to be, so long as one is prepared -- the problem is that very few are prepared.
I have over a week's worth of food I always carry in the truck, and this trip I was carrying about 12 gallons of water (most trips I carry about 20, and even around town I have three). Also, part of my always-part-of-my-truck kit is a few changes of clothes, a sleeping bag, several warm clothes, all three backpacks (varying sizes), a backpacking stove, just about every tool I would need to do anything on my truck, extra "truck consumables" (things like oil, grease, wire nuts, nuts and bolts, wire, tape, etc), at least ten and sometimes 30 gallons of extra fuel in cans, two very complete first aid kits, ad infinitum. I am continually accused of being ready for the zombie apocolypse- which I interpret for my own uses as being properly prepared. Always.
I was five minutes away from hiking down the hill to a location I knew would get me help when help came to me. In my pack I put in a sleeping bag, warm clothes, survival gear, food for three days, and two gallons of water. I figured I would reach help in about four hours, but in case I didn't, I was ready to spend the night away from my truck and away from help.
So no, solo is neither scary nor stupid. Unless you go unprepared.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Great job rolling her back over with the winch! Its almost as hairy as how I had to do it with my 81. But luckily I had a second truck. The bad part was that the second truck being my tacoma was not capable to get to where I rolled.. turns out the 81 does some things better. But mu winch is on a reciever and had 30 ftpower cable. So between straps and winch line etc and a tree that was in the right place but too small we (me) got it back upright. Also my 81 sat upside down for abiut an hour and a half. It was flooded with oil but I shut it down as soon as it rolled and it did not damage anything. But it has seriiusly bad valve guide seals and probably shot rings as well. As long as your truck was shut off quickly after the roll u would probably not have hydrolocked it.who knows what kind of electro judo there is that wouldn't let it start after airbags. That's rough. Good job man! Hope everything works out.

For those trying to tell me it's a simple computer problem, I can assure you it is not.
I removed about 1/8 quart of oil from the rear driver cylinder, after watching the spark plug hol fill with it when I removed the plug.
I then found where the remaining quart of oil went as we were headed down the hill. It was in my intake manifold. How it got there I don't know. But my intake manifold is full of oil, and still draining.
The truck wants to start. With a fresh battery and an idling engine, and two sets of HEAVY gauge jumper cables, I damn near stalled the other guy's engine when I went to start. That's how much load I was putting on the system trying to turn a jammed motor. So yes, bent internals I am 90%+ sure of.

    I agree.
I used to wheel alone all the time. Then I found TW. Lol
Either way, when I go out I'm prepared as much as I would be had I gone alone.
