So, trying to figure out if it's possible to get the JBL system in a double cab TRD O/R with 6 speed manual trans. Local dealers have been telling me it can't be configured that way on the '14's. Hoping somebody here can shed some light on the subject, since the dealers obviously cannot.

I've searched the forums as well, and found that there is a package for the JBL system, just no definitive answer if it can be ordered with a 6 speed for 2014.

Try going to www.toyota.com and building the truck in regions other than where you're currently looking.

You may also be able to tell by looking at a generic brochure.

Otherwise, hopefully some TW wisdom will be able to shine some light on the topic.

I've done that using different zipcodes from coast to coast, and haven't been able to build one with the JBL system. I've also searched inventory and haven't been able to find one configured that way anywhere either.

Unless they changed dramatically on the newer Tacomas but I have the JBL package on my 2006 TRD Sport model and to be honest with you its not worth it. Its better to go aftermarket then spend the extra on the JBL package. But like I said I have a 2006 so maybe its changed a lot since then.

My 2009 OR was a double cab 6 speed with the JBL system though I would have preferred it did not come with the JBL. I'm sure Toyota still configures it that way. When I was truck shopping, all I saw or that was available with TRD all came with JBL.

thanks, but more interested in ordering from the factory the way i want it. i figure if i'm spending 30k on a vehicle, it should come the way i'd like it.

To be honest I have heard the non-JBL systems for the Tacomas and the JBL just has a little more bass.

did you go aftermarket with your system? i've been down that road, and am at the point where i'd just like decent oem sound.

Don't get me wrong, it's good enough but not exactly worth what they are charging for it. I think it was like $595 or $695 it says on the sticker.

Totally agree with you and if my truck didnt already have it as an option I would have just got the regular sound system and went aftermarket down the road.

No I did not. Both my trucks came with the JBL. It is decent, just not to where I like it to be. I just never bothered pulling it and replacing as I did pay for it and it does work 99% of the time. Both my trucks had some sound related issue with the JBL. The 2009 had to get the amp replaced (TSB) and I know and experience once in a while the HU would turn on and off or just not turn on at all unless you restart the truck.

Look at it this way, you get to build your system the way you want it. The JBL is alright but cannot be compared to aftermarket.

Oh I know that, just not into tearing apart my vehicles anymore. I do agree that aftermarket is always gonna be better than oem in terms of sound quality.

I know what you mean but if you want clean sound just change out the speakers and add an amp at the very least while keeping the head unit stock. But if you're gonna be splicing through the wires, why not add a sub as well. Or you can skip all that and just a powered sub. Great reviews with the Sound Ordinance 8" powered sub.

OP have you had a chance to hear the difference between JBL & non-JBL?

I'm non-JBL and hate it. I'm like you, just really want to keep OEM look and functions. That being said, I drove a Tacoma with JBL and while it had a little more bass, for the price, I would have been even more disappointed. I don't hear all that well so when I turn(ed) either of the OEM systems I sampled to a level I could hear, the bass seemed significantly reduced. I guess this is to protect the speakers but it renders the sound systems nearly useless to me in terms of any quality sound.

I have jbl in my 2013 and it is the TRD off road. To be honest it sounds good if you don't listen to music like an idiot who turns it up way beyond what it should be. Oh and you can turn the bass up or down. But all in all I like it for just listening to music while driving places.

I haven't, but the general consensus is that the JBL does sound better. That said, no dealer can order this truck with in TRD O/R with manual trans. It can be ordered with auto, but that wont work for me.
